[cayugabirds-l] Baltimore Oriole in Caroline

I was stunned to see a resplendent Baltimore Oriole male sitting on my
platform feeder a few minutes ago. Wish I had had my oranges and jelly
out--but this is 6 days earlier than the earliest time I've previously seen
them arrive here (in 2017). Average arrival date here is May 3.

He joins a lively yard full of birds including 6-8 Evening Grosbeaks still
hanging around, 2 Purple Finches, and just today, the first Black-Throated
Green Warbler (heard only).

I live next to Shindagin Hollow State Forest.

[cayugabirds-l] Baltimore Oriole Question

I  am surprised to see a male Baltimore oriole at my suet feeder the past few 
days (after not see them since the spring). Any thoughts as to  why it is here? 
Migrating South?

Yesterday, a stunning pair of Baltimore Orioles at the orange halves secured to 
our deck railing. New oranges put out this morning, but no Orioles yet today.

I filled a hanging coconut with grape jelly about an hour ago and a Baltimore 
Oriole just ate some. So cool!!!

Male was singing here in SW Ovid (Seneca Basin) at 7:30 am, it or 
another one was eating sunflower seeds (and ignoring the adjacent suet, 
which is what they normally prefer) on our feeder at 11:45.

[cayugabirds-l] Baltimore Oriole and Rose Breasted Grosbeak

Today a Baltimore Oriole came to our cherry trees busy pecking
at the blossoms.  We also had a male and female Rose Breasted
Grosbeak come to our feeder this morning. Both species were FOY
sightings at our house.

I saw my FOY Barn Swallows today too! At the Montezuma Audubon Center in 
Savannah. A pair was checking out a spot they nest yearly, atop 2 outdoor light 
fixtures, one outside of each door on the western side of the building. There 
was no evidence of nest building yet, when I left work around 4:30 today. I’m 
going to try and pay attention and see how long it take for them to complete 
their nest!

I also observed a pair of Carolina wrens courting and nest building it seemed, 
a lot of singing and a lot of flitting back and forth. They’re nesting in the 
top (gable?) of a gazebo. I noticed at one point one heading in to the nest 
with a beak full of caterpillars or worms. So maybe an active nest? They were 
very loud whatever they were doing. This was in Geneva this evening.

RE: [cayugabirds-l] Baltimore Oriole question

I have several B. Orioles still eating my grape jelly (along with catbirds, 
chipmunks, gray squirrels, and raccoons and maybe flying squirrels at night).
I know of at least 2 BO nests right in my woodsy, bushy yard and at least one 
nest in a nearby oak tree in a neighbor's yard.

I gave up on orange halves last week because orioles didn't seem to be eating 
those.

I have 3 dishes of jelly, 2 hanging (but one of those would be accessible to 
flying squirrels).

B Orioles also raid the hummingbird feeder!

I have not seen the Orchard Orioles for about 3-4 weeks.

Two evenings ago I saw a male B Oriole take a caterpillar to its nest hanging 
over the road near my mailbox. It went inside and appeared a few moments later 
with a fecal sac, which it flew away and dropped over 100 feet away. The nest 
is beautiful.

What a gorgeous morning!

On my way to work this morning, I saw my FOY Baltimore oriole fly across the 
road in Tyre, NY. I've had my oranges hanging in the trees at the Audubon 
Center for 5 days, I hope today they find them!

Hi all, here on Bundy Road we have a eastern tower pair and  a grosbeak pair. 
It has been thrilling to look at the feeders and see the goldfinches, 
cardinals, red bellies, hairies, dowries, nuthatches, chickadees, House 
finches, blue jays and the occasional hawk that comes for a meal!

We looked out of our dining room window early this morning to find a male
Common Yellowthroat hopping around in the grass where he remained for
several minutes.  Then, we arrived home at 11:45 from Sapsucker Woods to
find our foy male Baltimore Oriole at our orange feeder.  We weren't as
lucky as many others at Sapsucker Woods but did have some nice sightings of
yellow-rumped (Myrtle) warblers, a yellow-bellied sapsucker. eastern wood
pewee, black and white warbler, towhee, and downy and hairy woodpeckers.

An unexpected visitor to our bird feeders was a pleasant surprise. This is the 
very first time I have seen or photographed a Baltimore Oriole in Aurora, N.Y. 
in December.
It was in stunning contrast to the leafless trees and the more drab usuals. Wow!

[cayugabirds-l] Baltimore oriole at Treman Marina!

At about 2pm we were watching a flock of at least 5 bluebirds in the trees
between the boat docks at Treman marina and the solar panels in the next
parking lot. Then a male Baltimore Oriole flew into the same trees and
allowed us excellent views of his beautiful plumage in the bright
sunlight.  After he flew deep into the evergreens along the driveway toward
Hangar Theater, we walked to Hogs Hole where we saw goldeneye, one gadwall,
common and hooded mergansers, black ducks and bufflehead.  In the distance
at Stewart Park, we could see a raft of redheads about the size of the raft

[cayugabirds-l] baltimore oriole

I just found my FOY Baltimore Oriole in a large tree by the Johnson Art Museum 
at Cornell.  I heard its simple, yet rich sounding, song as I was sitting on 
Libe Slope.  I went to investigate, and found a bright orange splash at the top 
of a larch (or whatever the NYS version of a larch is) farther down the slope, 
near the museum.  The larch is host to other birds as well - goldfinches, house 
finch, and others.

We have a BALTIMORE ORIOLE at our woodpecker feeders this evening. What 
outstanding color. I have never been able to observe one this closely before.

Must be the rain? A number of returning migrants (Balt. and Orchard O., Wood 
Thrush and Veery, and some warblers) arrived at my house last week, sang 
briefly then fell silent until this morning. Now they're all singing' in the

There's a very nice looking late Baltimore Oriole hanging out with a
flock of Cedar Waxwings in the wetlands along the Wilson Trail near
the Owen's Observation Platform.

Also a very vocal Raven hanging around.
