10:30 this morning, a flock of a couple of hundred Snow Buntings was flying
around the fields at the east end of Mt Pleasant Road. They were also seen by
Steve Fast and me on Sunday morning.
There's not much food up there since the fields were mowed so closely and there

Just spent a delightful 45 minutes or so traipsing over the fields in search of
the big flock of Snow Buntings that were found by Gladys Birdsall on
yesterday's Christmas Bird Count. I found them exactly where she had, way in
the back of the field behind the observatory. What fun to photograph!
A flock of nine Snow Buntings made a brief appearance on Mt Pleasant Rd as I
walked home just now. Also, heard only, Horned Larks and one American Pipit.

Snow Buntings feeding in some green-ish weeds at the junction of Mt Pleasant

Well, just in the nick of time for CBC Count Week, I saw a flock of around 20
Snow Buntings just west of the observatory on Mt Pleasant Rd (south side of the
road) as I drove by there around 3:55 pm today. Lots of white on the wings was
distinctive.
Earlier there was a large flock of Horned Lark
Around 3:30 pm today, 2 Snow Buntings and at least 3 Horned Larks on the
easternmost hill, Mt Pleasant Rd. I would not have seen them had they not been
flushed by a vehicle going by.

Yes, that's right! There were 4 Snow Buntings flittering and twittering around
at the east end of Mt. Pleasant Rd about 30 mins ago, while I was out enjoying
the balmy afternoon!
I hear Redpolls are on their way too. Maybe the beginning of a birdy winter?

ground and these opened up areas have attracted a lot of Snow Buntings and

Mount Pleasant has its first Snow Buntings of the season…2 up there on the road
about 3:45 pm today. Also a Downy Woodpecker flitting to and fro foraging on
corn stalks (both standing stalks as well as fallen ones). Maybe looking for
wintering larvae?

I had a couple interesting sightings during my morning walk along Mt.
Pleasant Rd. today. First was 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS (1 light, 1 dark) that
appeared flying low from the south. They seemed to be together, showed no
inclination to hang around, and disappeared over the trees to the north.

Up on the hill for my exercise walk this morning between 10:45 and 11:45, I saw
a flock of 20-ish Snow Buntings at the eastern end of Mt Pleasant Rd. And at
three different spots between there and the observatory I found individual

I observed a flock of about 150 snow buntings searching for seeds around the
Observatory on Mt .Pleasant late this morning. Unlike last year, there does
not appear to be much food up there.

I ventured to Mount Pleasant as well a little after 3pm. The fog
certainly didn't help but I did see a flock of Snow Buntings close to
the road right by the pink flags. I didn't get an exact count since they
