I finally saw Purple Martins at Cayuga Bird Club's Purple Martin house at
Stewart Park this morning! I was first alerted by their calls and saw two
pairs landing on the house. One male entered an apartment on the north
side, and later perched in front of the opening for some time. I
>From about 2-3:30pm I was windsurfing from East Shore going west to the
piling cluster located about 1/2 mile north of the lighthouse jetties. In
that vicinity were several swallows, mostly barn, foraging on the water. I
soon noticed that some seemed overweight and dark underneath, and soon
found
Mary Jean and I made a quick birding trip up the west side of Cayuga Lake late
this afternoon. We saw a nice array of birds but perhaps the highlight was
seeing that purple martins had returned to the martin houses at Sheldrake
Point, in the bay just across from the winery. We have not yet
WHile waiting for the first wave of Women Swimmin' arrive on dry land this
morning at the Ithaca Yacht Club, I was pleasantly distracted by about a dozen
Purple Martins perched high on the rigging of a nearby moored yacht.
