There was a Black-billed Cuckoo singing (multiple triplets closely spaced)
yesterday at 730am at the Lab.
As I got out of the car in the staff lot, the sound was from either the trees
between the drive and second lot (and bird facing away) or further over in the
patch of trees on the other side
We are still hearing both and the YBCUs have been more vocal these last few
days, the BBCU's more subdued but calling regularly. Perhaps yours are too
busy dining on Gypsy Moth cats.
We have heard very few YBs give the complete call as is common down south
in our experience.

This is indeed a big year for both cuckoos in our region. It is typical for
their populations to fluctuate greatly, depending on where the outbreaks of
caterpillars are occurring.
