Hi all,
Tim Lenz and I spotted a trio of Long-tailed Ducks this morning at East
Shore park. They flew in and landed about 100 feet out from shore. At that
point, the male was accompanied by two females.

I had a wonderful treat this morning. I spotted a large group of bluebirds
land in the maple tree by the road. They flew off quickly, with a few coming
in closer on the Beech tree. I went to the sunroom on the south side of the
house and my hunch was right. They were after the winterberries.

Viewing from near the southwest corner of Cayuga Lake I eventually saw 2 male and 1 female LONG-TAILED DUCK, so I guess there were at least 4 birds involved. I also saw: RED-THROATED LOON - 1 adult winter plumageCOMMON LOON 8DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT 1PIED-BILLED GREBE 1AMERICAN COOT 1BALD EAGLE 1
I should have posted this yesterdayWe had a Yellow-rumped Warbler at

I've been studying a partly crippled Common Grackle at my feeders over the past
few days. One of its wings trails along the ground as it moves, but it can fly
short distances to perch on a branch. It arrived along with a large mixed flock
of starlings and cowbirds but stayed on after they flew a
At midday on Thursday, I found two AMERICAN PIPITS at Myers Point. I first
saw the two birds flying north together across Salmon Creek. They showed
plain brown plumage without white in the wings, plus dark tails with white
outer feathers. At Salt Point, I confirmed the identity of one pipit as i

I was heading toward City Hall for the second time today. The first time I had set off the metal detector because I forgot I was wearing binoculars, so I made an exception to my rule always to carry binoculars when going outside during daylight. That's when I saw a large falcon fly across Green Str

A large flock (I estimated 100+) of Snow Buntings was flying over the field
across Mt Pleasant Rd opposite the radio tower road. They're baaack!
