The first drive as you go on to Towpath Road is closed unless you have a
permit which Linda Ziemba is very glad to give you if you are willing to
volunteer to survey birds for her!. Otherwise, it's a no-no.

tripod) but the bird can be I.D.'d.
It is a school day, so I am unsure where people would/should park. The road

Yeah, Mute Swans are feisty creatures...and of course they attack many other
BIRDS too. Just one more of those introduced creatures that arrived in this new
land, got uppity, and tried to take over;-)))

Melissa Penta and I got great views mainly with the scope
of the YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD almost immediately
when we arrived at West Corners Marsh around 7 am.
I briefly heard the buzz saw sounding call while she was the first
to sight it. The white on the wings in flight is very
distinctive!
And I suppose they went right out and shot the Swan after the tragic incident.
That's usually what happens where humans are harmed, when animals act in their
natural ways of defending themselves.

I have a couple stacks of Nature Magazine from the 1930's. Anyone
interested? I'll mail them to you if so. If I get more than one response,
I'll ask the first responder if they would like to split them or have them

This evening on my walk home from work I passed a family of 7 very small Mallard ducklings (first I've seen this year) running and pecking at the lawn with their mother south of Titus Towers in downtown Ithaca. This is a regular hang-out for Mallards, and there were several adult males in the area
