Five of us braved the wind and cold at the Taughannock Loon Watch this morning.
The first 15 minutes started out great with 111 moving south, but things slowed
down considerably for the rest of the morning. Nearly all loons were Cayuga
Lake birds with a few Lake Ontario birds towards th
Driving back from Rochester, after visiting Pine Grosbeaks Friday, I was able
to scan a little at dusk from Cayuga Lake SP. The Tundra Swans are starting to
build in numbers with over 100 just south of the park. I watched a feeding line
made up of 60 Red-breasted Mergansers and 50 Bonaparte's Gu
I was at Myers Point for a couple hours this morning (7:20-9:40), and
although I didn't see anything particularly exciting, the difference in
waterfowl I saw compared to Ethan et al at the Loon Watch was interesting.
A fairly large flock of mixed diving ducks was on the lake straight off the
point
Around 2 PM Sat. 11/24 at Towpath Rd., Knox Marcellus Marsh in Montezuma NWR,
in with the hundreds of Canada Geese, I saw a couple hundred SWANS.
Two that were much closer to me were TRUMPETER SWANS; all the others were far
away and though I could see them fairly well in my scope, most their head
