Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our

I, too, have now seen the flock of Bohemian Waxwings at the corner of Sapsucker
Woods Rd near Rt. 13. When I was there, they were about due SW from the curve
of the road, and about 10 m away from it.
I got the info on the flock early, when I stopped to talk to Kevin McGowan
about a Peregrine
The waxwings are currently on Sapsucker Woods Road between 13 and Kip's Barn.
Right now there's a large batch of cars marking the spot and a few scopes on
the birds. They are pretty far into the thicket at eye level in a mixed flock
(both Cedars and Bohemians), sometimes flying in and out of a
Just a reminder that it's probably not a great idea to stand in the middle
of Sapsucker Woods Rd. with your back to the traffic coming off of Route 13
and around a blind curve (especially as a sizable group), while trying to
get a look at the waxwings. I believe there's plenty of room on the

post along my driveway as I headed out this noon. It sat there calmly
while I took pictures from about 30m away. Eventually it dropped to
the ground and remained there until I flushed it several hours later
when going to

I just saw (about 7 pm April 4th) 9 Bohemian Waxwings hanging out in the
top of a white ash tree on Eastman Hill. I didn't see any cedar waxwings
with them.

Willseyville,
A friend of mine, Tim Dorn, lives on the west side of the lake, by Buttonwood
Winery, and has Barn Swallows nesting on his dock every year. A few of the
early arrivals were back on Monday the 1st hawking some unseen insects. I don't
know if they had been reported yet.
