Evening of Monday April 21, observed 2 osprey with nesting material landing on each of the three tallest light poles at the Ithaca High School stadium/track. There are no platforms there so I doubt they will be successful. Took a few shots with an ordinary camera. Christianne McMillan White

On a historical note, while doing breeding bird surveys at the Seneca Army Depot in the early 1990s, I recall there was an Osprey nest on the lake there, which was one of the very few in the region at the time. 1980-1985 NY nesting:

I think Osprey are prepared to go quite a distance from where they nest to where they fish. At Mono Lake (which has no fish) they fly sometimes 10 miles one way to freshwater lakes to find food, repeating this several times a day when they are feeding young. There are 10 or so pairs that nest
