Hi All,
I stopped by George Road around 5:30 this afternoon and saw a large bird
flapping and soaring overhead. I did not have my scope with me but spent
about 5 or so minutes watching the bird soar towards me and go around in
circles. I tried to make it into a juvenile Bald Eagle, but I
Hi,
Around 1:00 P.M., I was at George Road. Bad lighting. The water is really
receding there. The plus is that there are rocks and mud. I counted 33+
Kildeer, 3 or so Least Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Sandpiper and a couple
Sandpipers that I couldn't identify. The lighting and distance were a
At my house around 2:30 a flock of migrants came through - COMMON

YELLOWRUMP, REDSTART, NASHVILLE AND NORTHERN PARULA WARBLERS, and a RED-EYED
VIREO. There were some birds I just couldn't get on before they
This afternoon, I was visiting some friends on Hunt Hill Road (Ellis Hollow
way). As I was leaving, I saw warbler activity. I grabbed the binos
from my car and found 2 male Black-throated Blues and two Cape May Warblers.
I sure there were more warblers passing through, but I got there
A Northern Screech Owl was calling close to my house for close to 5
minutes around 11:15 this evening. There was a flock of something passing over

the same time, but the flock was drowned out by the owl. It sounded like a
duck species. I live in Eastern Heights in Ithaca..
Good night and
By the time I got to Myers around 10:00 am, I saw at least 102 TV's. I
saw an additional 35+ on Freeze Road a little later. I am sure I missed many,
many more TV's traveling south. What a great day!

I arrived at East Shore Drive before 5:00 P.M.. Gary Kohlenberg and Drew ?
were there. I saw the MANY reported Brant near the Weather Station in the
middle of the lake. Gary said the BLACK SCOTERS moved pretty far north,
too far north to id them. We went to Myers Park, and from the point,
Gary and I went to Syracuse this A.M. to see the Yellow-throated Warbler,
and after 1.5 hour's, we finally saw it. The bird showed up for a bit,
foraging at a very quick pace and then it moved on. We could have stood around
for another 1 and 1/2 hours, but we were rather cold by then.
Around 2:45 P.M., I spotted an Eared Grebe from the north side of the
boathouse in Aurora. It was somewhere around 1/3rd the way out in the lake. I
first noticed 5 Horned Grebes further north and further out on the lake. As
I scanned, the Eared Grebe came into view. It was much closer to
In response to Dave N,
We were on George Road around 7:45 and did not see the Pectoral
Sandpipers. We did see 2 Rusty Blackbirds (maybe Dave's group also saw them)
along
the Dryden Lake trail close to Purvis Road.

Hi All,
I led a trip to the Roy Park Preserve this morning for a Spring
Ornithology local trip. This was basically a warbler trip. The first one we
encountered was a male Prairie Warbler. He showed himself and sang for us. We
saw a
Canada Warbler singing from the bottom of the gorge
Hi,
Not quite knowing how to bird today because of the cold, windy, snowy day,
Gary and I decided to make a trip up the lake where it was colder, windier,
and more snowy. Makes sense, right?
Highlights were:
Union Springs Frontenac Park
12 COMMON TERNS on a pier
Cayuga Tow Path
Sorry everyone.
I meant White-rumped Sandpipers, not White-rumped Warblers. I might have
made up a new species!

We

This evening Laura Stenzler and I went to Stewart Park. Around 8:30 P.M.
we saw 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS flying north from the Jetty Woods area.
We, also, saw a very vocal BLACKPOLL WARBLER near the swan pen.
Good Birding,

Cerulean Warblers had been heard from Renwick Park and Jetty Woods for
many years. Does anyone know if they breed there? Personally, I would think
yes, but...

I don't know if this has been posted or not, but there is an Osprey nest on
the west side of the lake 3-4 miles south of the gas station at the
northern end. It is on the west side of the road and, actually, quite close to
the road. I was surprised seeing it. They are definitely spreading
Last evening at a friend's home on Yaple Road, a number of us witnessed a
Common Night hawk fly over us heading east. We watched it's flight pattern
until it vanished over the horizon.
