Re: [ccp4bb] dewar horror stories

2020-06-26 Thread Minmin
A collaborated group met the similar situation with FedEx before and they
switched to World courier afterwards.
When your shipping dewar is no longer leaking of course, maybe you would like
to check out the following link below. According to our users, crystals stored
in the CombiPuck seem to get less or no ice up after shipment, possibly because
the vials inside the puck helped keep the LN2 temp well.  The 16pins puck base
format of the CombiPuck is the same format as the UniPuck. It is easy to switch
from crystals stored in canes or any other formats of the pucks to the
CombiPuck. It is also easy to retrieve the crystals from the CombiPuck back to
the canes or any other pucks when needed.

That only explains everything we have seen with completely damaged samples,

When trying to communicate seriously with FEDEX about these issues - they even
did not reply ...

Hello community,
We recently had a dry shipping dewar fail catastrophically (while en route to
the beam line, so, major trauma). I sent it to a company that specializes in
repair and refurbishing of cryogenic tanks, and they told me it has an internal
leak, and hence is not reparable. I was expecting that the valve had failed, so
the internal leak diagnosis came as a surprise.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any ideas about how an internal leak
might come about? The dewar is (was) a Taylor/Wharton CX100, and it was
traveling in its bespoke shipping case.
Thanks for any insights that might satisfy my curiosity and/or prevent future
mishaps of this sort.
Cheers,
Pat

[ccp4bb] PLEASE POST: Postdoctoral Position at Harvard Medical School

2020-06-26 Thread Chou, James
Dear Sir/Madam:

Can you please post the following Postdoc Job Ad to ccp4bb? Thank you!

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of James
Chou at Harvard University Medical School.
The research project investigates an emerging concept in receptor biology that
the transmembrane anchors of many immune receptors play a much more active role
in receptor clustering and activation then previously appreciated. The goal is
to use NMR to reveal the membrane-interacting regions of single-pass
transmembrane receptors at atomic resolution, and in combination with other
biochemical and cell biological assays, to gain deeper understanding of
receptor preligand autoinhibition and ligand-induced activation for many of the
immune receptors currently being targeted for cancer immunotherapy and
autoimmune treatment. For general information of our lab, please visit
https://chou.hms.harvard.edu/.
The applicant must have a PhD and solid training in protein biochemistry,
structural biology, or cell biology. Interested applicants should directly
contact James Chou at
james_c...@hms.harvard.edu.

[ccp4bb] Pointless with fast close?

2020-06-26 Thread Aaron Finke
I’m running Pointless on a large number of datasets, just to search for higher
symmetry (the only options I’m inputting are xdsin XDS_ASCII.HKL and SETTING
SYMMETRY-BASED). I’ve noticed that after the symmetry search, it pauses for a
few seconds after the “Filename:” output, then ends normally with the pointless
references. I don’t know why it’s doing that and it’s making a batch run of
pointless much longer than it should be.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Aaron

[ccp4bb] PhD studentship Institut de Biologie Structurale, Grenoble, France.

2020-06-26 Thread Franck Borel
Dear all,
As part of the European ITN MepAnthi project, a PhD student position is
available in the Synchrotron Group at the “Institut de Biologie Structurale”,
Grenoble, France.
The project focuses on the development of selective and potent inhibitors of
the anti-infective targets from MEP pathway (biosynthesis of the isoprenoid
precursors), which is entirely absent in humans but is essential for medically
relevant pathogens. The IBS’s task will be the structural analysis of the last
two enzymes of the pathway (IspG and IspH), using a drug design approach.
Other phD positions are also available from other consortium partners. For
further information and for application see:
http://mepanti.hips-wordpress.helmholtz-hzi.de/

Regards

Franck BOREL
