A PhD fellowship is available in the laboratory of Dr. A. Dessen at the Institut de Biologie Structurale in Grenoble, France, on structural biology of proteins involved in the architecture of secretion systems of pathogenic bacteria. The goal of this project is to crystallize, collect synchrotron data, and solve the three-dimensional structures of bacterial outer membrane proteins, an objective for which we already have a number of promising preliminary results. Candidates should be familiar with molecular biology and biochemistry techniques and have an interest in learning X-ray crystallography. A 2-year postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. A. Dessen at the Institut de Biologie Structurale in Grenoble, France, to study structure and function of new bacterial virulence factors. The laboratory has state-of-the-art equipment for biochemistry and crystallography studies, and the postdoctoral fellowship will involve protein purification, crystallization, data collection at the synchrotron, and structure solution and refinement. The IBS is a member of the Partnership for Structural Biology and thus has preferential access to equipment and techniques available on the PSB site, which also includes the EMBL, the ILL, and the ESRF.
