[ccp4bb] Two postdoc positions in structural enzymology

2022-12-14 Thread Meilleur, Flora
Dear colleagues,
We have two immediate openings for Postdoctoral Research Associates at Oak
Ridge National Laboratory:

Position 1: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in structural
biology of enzymes degrading recalcitrant natural and synthetic polymers. The
Postdoctoral Research Associate will join a multi-disciplinary research team
that uses enzyme engineering and neutron/X-ray/electron diffraction to
understand structural features that determine activity and design enzymes with
improved efficiency. As an ORNL postdoctoral fellow you will have access to
state-of-the-art facilities for biochemical characterization and X-ray
diffraction, as well as access to world class facilities for neutron and
electron diffraction.
Applicants should have received a Ph.D. in biochemistry, structural biology,
chemistry or related science field within the last five years and should have
extensive experience in protein purification and biochemical characterization.
For informal enquiries please contact Flora Meilleur
(meille...@ornl.gov) or Josh Michener
(michene...@ornl.gov)

Position 2: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to characterize
the structure and dynamics of enzymes immobilized on biopolymer matrices using
X-ray and neutron scattering techniques.
Applicants should have received a Ph.D. in material science, bioengineering,
structural biology, chemistry or related science field within the last five
years and should have experience in X-ray and/or neutron scattering techniques.

The project is part of the Biocatalysts Interactions with Gases (BIG)
international collaboration (https://sites.textiles.ncsu.edu/big/), with
partners at North Carolina State University (NC State), Technical University of
Denmark (DTU), and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The candidate will
join the Neutron Scattering Division at ORNL and will work closely with
collaborator and ORNL's Weinberg Distinguished Staff Fellow Dr. Yue Yuan at the
Center for Nanophase Material Science.

[ccp4bb] Post-Doctoral Position in Virus Structure and Function

2007-11-28 Thread Meilleur, Flora
Dear all,

Please circulate this job opening to anyone you think might be interested.

Thanks,
 Flora

Post-Doctoral Research Associate: Virus Structure and Function

The Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory
(http://www.sns.gov) and the Center for Structural Molecular Biology
(http://www.csmb.ornl.gov), in collaboration with the North Carolina State
University Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry
(http://biochem.ncsu.edu http://biochem.ncsu.edu/ ) have an opening for a
Post-Doctoral research associate.

We seek a Biophysicist/Biochemist or Physicist to work on Small Angle Neutron
Scattering (SANS) and neutron reflectivity analysis of virus structure and
function.

Arthropod borne viruses (arboviruses) are transmitted by blood sucking insects
and cause some of the most devastating diseases known to human and veterinary
medicine. Sindbis virus is prototypic of the arboviruses. Its structure is
complex, comprising two nested icosahedral shells separated by a lipid membrane
that protects a core of single-stranded RNA. Cellular interaction and infection
involves dramatic reorganization of the virus surface and interior and in the
appearance of the lipid bilayer. These transitions can be duplicated by
exposure to acidic pH. The aim of the project is to characterize these dynamic
changes in solution and during membrane surface interactions with a series of
neutron scattering and reflectometry experiments that employ contrast variation
and modeling. The ultimate goal is to elucidate the infection mechanism of
Sindbis across several levels of complexity.

The candidate should be proficient in conducting all aspects of experimental
scattering and analysis, data reduction and modeling. Previous work in either
neutron or X-ray scattering is desirable. Contacts: Dr. Flora Meilleur, email:
