 'range'.

There isn't as I've seen. I've seen as low as $15 and as high as $100.

 2. Is $105,000 per year feasible for a Senior CF Developer for a job in
America with 5 weeks paid vacation and 10 paid holidays?

Feasable if you find the right company.

 3. Anyone know any recruiters who specialize in placing ColdFusion

No.

Actually, you are posting on CF-Jobs-Talk. That's for discussion about
jobs and the job market. CF-Jobs would be a better pick of where to post
(more people looking there as well).

We (by we, I mean me and by my perception, I think most everyone else
agrees) don't MIND it being posted here (as long as it overposted), but
if you keep doing it wrong, you may upset some people. :)

As a side note, you may want to explain what RTP is as this is a
national (international?) list. Also, I'm presuming telecommuting is not
an option (Why I have no idea, but to each their own). You may want to
make it clear in future posts if it is an option or not.

 Philip,

Thank you very much for the great insight. What is the CF-Jobs address?

Whereas cf-jobs-talk@houseoffusion.com is the cf-jobs-talk address,
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is the jobs list.

Telecommuting is not an option, you are correct.

Mind if I ask why? Several qualified people are around to service a
companies needs, but with the economy the way it is, you might not find
someone willing to move out to where the job is. I know me personally, I
moved to Las Vegas for a great job, but office politics got in the way
(my own boss didn't want to let me go) and after 2 months, I was let go
with nothing except a year lease that I had got and just managed to
furnish said apartment (Craigslist was a godsend to clear it all out).

Is managing people in person that important that you will only take from
a small pool of qualified applicants (who no doubt know they are in
demand by you, so they inflate the prices or you pick up someone who is
just starting to learn on the cheap and fix the issues as their mistakes
crop up)?

Telecommuting can be managed well and hopefully, you can find someone
who doesn't need much management. It also means you don't have to use up
space/equipment/etc. for them being there or relocate them.

Just pointing out some things that have been discussed on this list. You
may want to consider them and if you have the authority, try to get the
office environment more earth friendly (less gas to and from work).

You've been very helpful and I greatly appreciate it.

No worries. That's why this is here. :)

Then again, I will restate. I'm only guessing here.

I'm concerned that there could be a lot of extra work for a company to
hire a Canadian telecommuter, which in turn would make applying for

Does anyone have links or firsthand knowledge about this?

Re: CF programmer with experience building Social networking sites

2008-07-30 Thread Phillip M. Vector
I agree fully. Unfortunately, we have people posting jobs who aren't
knowledgeable enough to post their contact info in their posts (and are
still getting replies from those of us who deal with it as an email
list, so there is no motivation for them to change).

If Judith and Michael want to fix this (I would figure it would be
pretty easy to do), that's up to them. It would makes things on the
forum side a little clearer though. :)

Vicky wrote:
Judith... Far as I'm concerned, someone posting a position should be
professional and include some manner of contact info within the body of the
post. The *one* email generated per such thread asking for further contact
info doesn't warrant you or Michael going out of your way to fix this
issue in addition to the many responsibilities you already have. You're too
 kind. :)

Re: CF programmer with experience building Social networking sites

2008-07-29 Thread Phillip M. Vector
That would be bad... Is that how your forum software works?

If I hit reply on a forum, I would want it to go to the thread I was
replying to. Not a private email.

Perhaps you meant a reply to poster button?

As for the list, cf-jobs does that. cf-jobs-talk (this one) doesn't
because it's made for discussions. The people posting jobs on this list
are actually posting to the wrong list. So it's an PebCak error.

Bobby Hartsfield wrote:
Or he could just make all replies on cf-jobs go to the author rather than

Do you remember which version it was focused on? CF8, CF7, CFMX6.1?

Sorry. I do not.

Also, do you have a reference in mind that should work well? My first
inclination is Ben's CFMX7 CERT dev study guide.

That's the thing. I think that one may be incorrect as it's not
official. I was thinking of the old macromedia white books.

You are pretty rare it seems. I've had recruiters contact me about
positions and once I tell them my salary from the previous jobs I've

jobs, but those were contracts where I charged more because it wasn't a
full time position.

Just because my last job paid 40k doesn't mean that I expect my next job

the side) doesn't mean that I expect to get the same rate with someone
else. :)

Maybe I have a strangely screwed look at the work force but my experience
is that you would be the exception to the rule.

heh.. Several people tell me that. :)

If you have CF and FB experience, I have a job posting listed. Send a resume
you can skip the salary history and we'll talk.

CF-Jobs is for job postings.
CF-Jobs-Talk is for talking about how recruiters tend not to follow the
directions on Webpages telling them where to post jobs.

Also, the Degrees needed... Yeah.. Good luck with that. :)

A college degree contains much more than what you are narrowly

True. However, experience in the field can gain you all the skills you
gain at college. I dare say, perhaps more as you are no longer learning
about things by books and lectures, but actually doing things hands on
in a production environment.

I used to work for this company and know pretty much what they are
looking for (at least, as of February. Might be different now).

Fusebox 3, AJAX, Heavy Javascript, Prototype, Scriptaclous (sp), JSON,
ColdFusion 7 (come to think of it, it may have been MX), MS SQL.

Once again, that was in February and it may have changed. The people are
nice, the place does get a bit cold in the winter (upper level of a
warehouse) and they do seem to care about the people who work for them.

If you want more details on my experience there, please feel free to
