I'd agree that choosing available standard names for tide gauge related data
hasn't been obvious.
My comment is that tide level is a special type of vertical reference datum but
one that that isn't unique.
For example, subtracting a published tide prediction from observation data is

I think that the best solution so far is to use the existing
"sea_surface_height_correction_due_to_air_pressure_and_wind_at_high_frequency",
even if I'm quite unsure about the "_at_high_frequency" part... (I'm
