sqlplus locks qhen i am trying to delete a record

Something really strange is happening (Oracle 8i). I have a database and when i try to delete a record which doesn´t exist the sqlplus becomes locked. And other tables the sqlplus returns the correct message 0 rows deleted. i.e: table home |
