Six months ago you could have tempted me to move to Melbourne from Perth.
As it is now however I was tempted to Europe instead, now working in The
Hague - just don't mention the weather... :)

See that is the thing Dale, your experience is different to the next.
I know of 7 companies just in the last 3 years alone, who couldn't get
developers and have emailed me. When I ask them what version they are
using, so I can ask around, I almost fall over backwards when they say
ColdFusion 5.
Not sure I agree with that,
I haven’t come across any companies using CF5 for a very long time, most are 8
or 9.
Still there are lot of spaghetti applications out there good developers don’t
want to work on and a lot of spaghetti developers that good companies don’t
want.

Coldfusion Thunder (CF11) and Splendor (CF Builder) public betas are

yep, there are still a few of us around...
the challenge has always been 'which stone to look under'
* Seek and the like are full of the new toys, PHP, Rails and a bit of .net
* The CFUGs of old have long since disappeared..
Even CFaussie has seen better days...
but there are a few of us around
It has been my experience that those finding it difficult to get
developers, are themselves using older version of ColdFusion, mainly
version 5. And that is a problem in itself... Not saying this is that case
here, but something to consider.
And personally the money usually on offer for developing
Well said Mike,
There are loads of 40+ great web developers out there, so you are not alone.

Hi Dave, senior-level CF developer in Sydney… Unfortunately because I have
ties up here I wouldn't be of much use for any jobs in Melbourne...
I'll check my list of contacts and see if any of them may be in Melbourne
and let you know...

I'm guessing a lot of us got sick of the daily grind of finding people who
would pay for our skills and went off on our own projects. I dont look for
contracting work any more - sometimes it comes my way, but I'm just not
interested in talking to whippersnappers who think cos i"m over 40 years
old
There are several companies with lots of CF developers in Melbounre
CogState
NGA.NET
Thomson Reuters
On The House
IMGSTG
And probably lots im unaware of.

I can only think of one off the top my head (not me). Have you been to a
recent MAD meetup? That's probably your best bet for finding new talent, I
would think.

Hi there,
I was wondering if there are any mid-senior level ColdFusion developers
left in Australia (specifically, Melbourne).
We are finding is really tough to hire people that have written
"enterprise" (ie, complex, framework driven) applications.
