Daemon still have a healthy mix of Adobe ColdFusion and Railo amongst our
clients. Invariably new clients are on Railo, and many older ACF clients
are planning migration to Railo. While ACF remains
I have written a lot of complex systems in ColdFusion in my time but for the
last few years I have been working with just Java. Still love ColdFusion best
though. So much so that I wrote a web server from scratch using many similar

I'm moving back to Oz next year after what will have been 9 years in the UK.
Not sure exactly what I'm going to do when I get back, I still do a lot of
CF today (primarily Railo) but have focused a lot more on JS lately and run
a JS user group here.
Do many cf places in oz use Railo?

No surprises that I am also running Farcry (and MangoBlog) on Railo as well.

Our company is using Railo over ACF..
I doubt I'd change back unless they Adobe released some killer features
that couldn't be replicated somehow.

Hi there,
I was wondering if there are any mid-senior level ColdFusion developers
left in Australia (specifically, Melbourne).
We are finding is really tough to hire people that have written
enterprise (ie, complex, framework driven) applications.

I'm guessing a lot of us got sick of the daily grind of finding people who
would pay for our skills and went off on our own projects. I dont look for
contracting work any more - sometimes it comes my way, but I'm just not

Hi Dave, senior-level CF developer in Sydney… Unfortunately because I have
ties up here I wouldn't be of much use for any jobs in Melbourne...
I'll check my list of contacts and see if any of them may be in Melbourne
and let you know...

It has been my experience that those finding it difficult to get
developers, are themselves using older version of ColdFusion, mainly
version 5. And that is a problem in itself... Not saying this is that case
here, but something to consider.
And personally the money usually on offer for

See that is the thing Dale, your experience is different to the next.
I know of 7 companies just in the last 3 years alone, who couldn't get
developers and have emailed me. When I ask them what version they are
using, so I can ask around, I almost fall over backwards when they say
ColdFusion 5.
Doesn’t surprise me, I know there are lots using it that I don’t know of.
I see lots of cf sites and wonder who is developing this.

As it is now however I was tempted to Europe instead, now working in The
