Not long ago had a rubber roof installed by Michael S. White 443-845-5133.
Very pleased with the price and the promptness. So far so good!

The rubber roof was expensive but is long lasting. Kelbie Roofing in Columbia
did the did porch roofs, flashing and installed commercial grade gutters too.
If you get on the roof and look around, you can see the difference between the
tar roofs and the rubber membranes if your neighbors have them. I struggled
for a year on this and wasted alot of money on alternatives and fixes to
ceiling plaster before just deciding to do the rubber roof. It was well worth
it.

Re: [Chat] contractor for a rubber roof?

2010-12-08 Thread Jeanne Knight

Kelbie Roofing charged $8000 and included all new flashing. gutters etc. and
some demolition and rebuilding of the roof on the back of the house. I could
have had the old layers removed and disposed for another $2000 but decided
against it.

This was for a thicker membrane and longer lifetime and warranty than another
estimate I had for $4000. The less thick the material, the less it costs.
There are probably better deals but I was really desperate at this point and my
neighbor a few doors down clearly had a great roof so I asked who had done the
work for them and contacted Kelbie.

The Jim McDonald disaster cost me $2500 for one-third the roof (ended up being
about 10 feet in reality--he thought I would never go up there to see) which
all had to be taken up and redone after it finally rained a few times. See
below.

Locating the source of roofing problems can be a challenge because most
evidence of a leak doesn't correspond with an obvious defect directly above.
As water tries to make its way to the lowest point it doesn't always follow the
path suggested by the pitch of the roof. I know people whose leaks came from
a poorly roofed/flashed firewall on the neighbor's roof.

[Chat] contractor for a rubber roof?

2010-12-05 Thread Emil Volcheck
Hello, neighbors,

Has anyone gotten a rubber (or rubber membrane) roof for your rowhouse?

Our roof is ten years old, due for replacement, and we'd like to get the
more long-lasting rubber roof. We've gotten recommendations for
Turner Roofing and Essex Roofers and wondering if anyone has
heard about them.

Fick Bros. is local, and they do rubber roofing:

but previously on this list, Richard Burnham said they were expensive.
Has anyone hired Fick Bros.?

Thanks,

--Emil
