I believe that to be true for bench seat. I know it is for buckets.

hello, just picked up a split bench seat on
I removed the boot and a multi fiber material (looked like a dozen + fiber
threads) was crimped over by the metal end of the wire. Leads me to believe it
is not a solid wire - sound about right?

I have a new harness, with HEI and three wire alternator from MH. I need
to connect the wires to the starter. It looks like there are 3 or 4
terminals on the starter. It looks like the S terminal is closest to the
engine and the purple wire goes on that one. The center lug is big and the

That's right. There's really no need to know how to identify a particular wire
as they're all marked when sold. You could get some old wires and cut them open
to see what inside if you wanted to know. Here is a good article on wires.

on the subject of bench seats.I have one from my '69 in the
garage since I'm switching to buckets. The question is, what should
I do with it? Is it worth trying to sell it? I'm not sure how I
would go about shipping it to someone. Any ideas?
I always wanted to clean it up and bring it
Dont throw it away! They are getting just as hard, and darn near as expensive
as the bucket seats. Shipping, seperate it and box it. Or you could strap it
down to half a palette and truck frieght it.

Coolyeah, I don't want to toss it. Someone
could use it I'm sure. So for shipping, do you mean separate it into pieces?

Hi All..
I'm pretty familiar with SBC's, but I now find myself building a 1970 Chevelle
SS with a 454 big block.. The engine right now is just a long block.
I need all the brackets and parts to run the engine, including the P.S Pump,
Alternator, etc..
Does anyone sell a complete kit for this
I think there is a way to separate the two back sections from the base
so you can ship it flat. I have never done it though.
I need one from a '69 for my El Camino.

There seems to be no room to get drilling or tapping tools at it while in the

Fairly common problem for the Ford's. No other way to
fix same, Ford recommends removing the head as the
proper fix. You can buy the fix kit and do it your
self without removing the head with the helicoil much
cheaper then the $800, but it may not hold. Some Ford
service managers will only

You always seem to have something new! You just like fixing them up then

Has anyone on the list had any experience with the
aftermarket fuel injection systems? Thinking about
putting one on my 72 Monte Carlo with the 330hp 350
crate engine. Not sure which one to go with.

The yellow wire ran up to the coil to supply the points ignition with a full 12
volts for starting. It was energized only when the starter was engaged. If you
are using HEI ignition you don't want this wire connected.
You also want to make sure you don't supply your HEI distributor with power
OK, I'll take a closer look at it and see if it comes apart easily.

Thanks. The one in mine is from a 4-door, so it doesn't fold forward,
which makes it tough to get into the area behind the seat.

If it is a split front seat you just remove the plastic piece where the seat
folds forward and remove the press on nut and then pull the back of the seat
off the peg that sticks out where the nut went on and the whole back piece will
lift out from where in pivots in the center. Do the same on

I have a 70 malibu that has recently been restored, but i used the original
wiring harness. After hooking everything back up the turn directionals, dash

It is a split bench. Thanks for the info. I'll check it out tonight.

I hate driving. I remember when I first got my license how much I loved to
drive. Hell, I'd drive to the corner store, which was literally 3 houses down.
Nowadays, I loathe getting behind the wheel.

Ken,
Check your grounds. Had a similar problem when I put mine together. Make sure
that there is no paint where the dash harness connects to the dash frame and
also make sure that the dash frame is fee of paint where it mounts to the body.
If your not sure, try jumping the harness ground to
I ran into simular problems when I replaced my wiring harness. Trouble
turned out to be a bent tab on the ignition switch connector (the one on top
on the column under the dash). A tab was pushed up (or down) and not making
connection. Caused wired stuff.. Unless you can see physical
What is your definition of short out . Off the top of my head,
those items are not on one fused circuit. I'd recheck for correct
connections behind the dash and look for wires that are crushed between say
the dash panel frame. If more than 1 fuse blows, I'd replace one at a

Ken- If you’re thinking replacement, I can give you my experiences. I
bought a kit from Painless, that was very involved to install. My original
dash wiring had been “worked on” by every monkey with a pair of pliers since
it was new. I went with the Painless kit because I have full aftermarket
Dan- Last I knew you could go down to your local GM dealer and buy all the
pulleys and brackets for a 76 ¾ ton 454 truck as a package for a reasonable
price. Theyll likely be painted black stamped steel, but it should work
just as well as all the shiny expensive aftermarket stuff.
