[cia-drugs] On the Cover of the Rolling Ston
http://rigorousintuition.blogspot.com/ Thursday, June 01, 2006 On the Cover of the Rolling Stone And it's a gut check of what you believe - Anti-Flag I don't have time this morning to post, but here's something to chew on. Tomorrow, Rolling Stone tries to get its groove back by publishing a 10-page damning and detailed feature article by Robert F Kennedy Jr on the theft of the 2004 election. Bradblog, the electronic bulldog of voter fraud, is all over it. Kennedy will be promoting his story hard this month in a number of appearances, including a spot on The Colbert Report June 12. I'm trying not to write something dithering, like time will tell whether America's peripatetic culture finally takes to this story. But it's tough. If it ever will, this is the window for it. With Bush's depressed numbers, editors who are neither backwash nor Mockingbirds may seize the moment, if for no more honourable reason than the consumers of their product are now more than ever likely to believe the worst of their government, and perhaps better of themselves. (We, the People, did not choose this man.) The window won't remain open for long. Showdown: Iran looms, hastened by the hollow gesture of an offer of talks if Iran first abandons - well, just about everything. But it had to be done, so Washington can later shrug and say military action was, once more, the last choice. And when the next front opens in ernest, perhaps as soon as this month, don't be caught unaware in the stampede to support the president in time of war. Still, while the window's open a crack, it's encouraging to see pollster Lou Harris say that Ohio was as dirty an election as America has ever seen. But what may come after that, I don't find so heartening. Do enough Americans really lack for knowledge of their government's crimes? Are there not already millions who, to the Bush laundry list of bloody obscenity, would wearily nod their heads, I know? Maybe it's not awareness that needs raising, so much as American fists. posted by Jeff at 8:40 AM Complete archives at http://www.sitbot.net/ Please let us stay on topic and be civil. OM YAHOO! [cia-drugs] ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR: Was the 2004 Election Stolen?
ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR: Was the 2004 Election Stolen? Republicans prevented more than 350,000 voters in Ohio from casting ballots or having their votes counted -- enough to have put John Kerry in the White House. Like many Americans, I spent the evening of the 2004 election watching the returns on television and wondering how the exit polls, which predicted an overwhelming victory for John Kerry, had gotten it so wrong. By midnight, the official tallies showed a decisive lead for George Bush -- and the next day, lacking enough legal evidence to contest the results, Kerry conceded. Republicans derided anyone who expressed doubts about Bush's victory as nut cases in ''tinfoil hats,'' while the national media, with few exceptions, did little to question the validity of the election. The Washington Post immediately dismissed allegations of fraud as ''conspiracy theories,''(1) and The New York Times declared that ''there is no evidence of vote theft or errors on a large scale.''(2) But despite the media blackout, indications continued to emerge that something deeply troubling had taken place in 2004. Nearly half of the 6 million American voters living abroad(3) never received their ballots -- or received them too late to vote(4) -- after the Pentagon unaccountably shut down a state-of-the-art Web site used to file overseas registrations.(5) A consulting firm called Sproul Associates, which was hired by the Republican National Committee to register voters in six battleground states,(6) was discovered shredding Democratic registrations.(7) In New Mexico, which was decided by 5,988 votes,(8) malfunctioning machines mysteriously failed to properly register a presidential vote on more than 20,000 ballots.(9) Nationwide, according to the federal commission charged with implementing election reforms, as many as 1 million ballots were spoiled by faulty voting equipment -- roughly one for every 100 cast.(10) Continued: http://mparent.livejournal.com/9080969.html Today's Newswire http://mparent.livejournal.com/2006/06/01/ MARC PARENT CRIMES AND CORRUPTIONS OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER NEWS http://mparent.livejournal.com/ http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/14409 http://www.dailykos.com/user/ccnwon All new Yahoo! [cia-drugs] Venezuela Backs Plan to Sell Oil in Euros
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/fn/3920101.html Venezuela Backs Plan to Sell Oil in Euros © 2006 The Associated Press CARACAS, Venezuela Venezuela's oil minister said Thursday that he backs the idea of selling oil in euros instead of U.S. dollars, a proposal also supported by fellow OPEC member Iran. "Iran has an initiative that we support. They are going to start to do oil transactions in euros," Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez said in an interview with state television. Selling oil in euros would in theory boost world demand for the European currency at the expense of the dollar. Analysts have said the proposal is highly unlikely to materialize but could in theory have serious consequences for the U.S. economy by undermining the value of the dollar and diminishing its status as the currency used in central-bank reserves. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is one of the U.S. government's most vocal critics on the world stage. "If a market in euros is created, with the euro as a reference, we could send our supplies so they are sold under this (currency)," added Ramirez, who is also the president of the state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA. Ramirez spoke ahead of a meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries in Caracas. Earlier this month, Iran's oil ministry granted a license for the creation of a euro-denominated market, an idea first floated back in 2004, though just who would trade on it remains unclear. If Iran or Venezuela were to demand payment for oil in euros, commodities experts have said it could lead central bankers around the world to convert some dollar reserves into euros, possibly causing a decline in the dollar's value. Oil is currently denominated in dollars around the globe, through direct sales between producers and consumers or in trades made on markets in New York and London. [cia-drugs] Geronimo's family call on Bush to help return his skeleton
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/article622744.ece Geronimo's family call on Bush to help return his skeleton By Andrew Buncombe in Washington Published:01 June 2006 The great grandson of the Apache leader Geronimo has appealed to the big chief in the White House to help recover the remains of his famous relative - purportedly stolen more than 90 years ago by a group of students - including the President's grandfather. The story that members of Yale University's secret Skull and Bones society took the remains - including a skull and femur - from the burial site in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, has long been part of the university's lore. But a university historian recently recovered a letter from 1918 that appears to support the story that members of the society did indeed take the remains while serving with a group of army volunteers from Yale, stationed at the fort during the First World War. The students - among them, Mr Bush's grandfather Prescott - apparently returned with the remains and kept them in their society's headquarters at the university in New Haven, Connecticut. The society's initiation rite reportedly involves kissing a skull, referred to as "Geronimo", usually held in a glass case. The letter from society member Winter Mead to fellow member F Trubee Davison, made public earlier this month, said: "The skull of the worthy Geronimo the Terrible, exhumed from its tomb at Fort Sill by your club... is now safe inside the [tomb] together with his well worn femurs, bit and saddle horn." The famous Indian chief's great-grandson is appealing for President Bush's help in recovering the remains. Speaking from his home in Mescalero, New Mexico, Harlyn Geronimo said: "I am requesting his help in getting the remains - the skull and the femur - returned, if they were taken. According to our traditions the remains of this sort, especially in this state when the grave was desecrated ... need to be reburied with the proper rituals. To return the dignity and let his spirits rest in peace ... is important in our tradition." The letter was discovered by the Yale historian Marc Wortman and published in the Yale Alumni Magazine. Mr Wortman said there was still scepticism as to whether the remains were those of Geronimo - something that could probably only be proved by carrying out DNA tests. "What I think we could probably say is they removed some skull and bones and other materials from a grave at Fort Sill," he said. "Historically, it may be impossible to prove it's Geronimo's. They believe it's from Geronimo." Geronimo, a leader of the Chiricahua Apache, is remembered as one of the last Native American leaders to hold out against the forces of the US government. He eventually surrendered in Skeleton Canyon, Arizona, in 1886 and was moved first to Florida and then Oklahoma. He died of pneumonia at Fort Sill in 1909, and was buried at the fort's Apache Indian Prisoner of War cemetery. The White House yesterday did not return calls seeking a comment. A Yale spokeswoman, Dorie Baker, said the university could not comment because the Skull and Bones was a separate entity and that because it was a secret society "we don't know anything". The society has not commented on the issue. Life of a warrior Geronimo's real name Goyathlay literally meant "one who yawns", but any further comparisons with lethargy stop there. The Chiricahua Apache leader was head of one of the last American Indian fighting forces to formally capitulate to the United States, and gained a reputation for his bravery and ability to dodge bullets. The feared Apache warrior took up arms against the Mexicans, and later the Americans, after Spanish troops massacred his wife and three children in 1858. His tribe was later forcibly moved by the US government to arid reservations. Geronimo and his 35 warriors avoided the combined armies of Mexico and the US for a year before being captured in 1886 by General Nelson A Miles at Skeleton Canyon, Arizona. Geronimo became something of a national celebrity, despite being a prisoner. He evenrode in Roosevelt's 1905 inaugural parade, but still died a prisoner of war far from his homeland. The great grandson of the Apache leader Geronimo has appealed to the big chief in the White House to help recover the remains of his famous relative - purportedly stolen more than 90 years ago by a group of students - including the President's grandfather. June 1, 2006 -- Rocky shoals for Bush marriage? Informed sources Inside the Beltway report that First Lady Laura Bush has established temporary residence in the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC as a result of a tiff with President Bush over an extramarital relationship involving her husband. Mr. Bush's tryst is said to involve Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. It is not known how long Mrs. Bush plans to remain at the Mayflower, however, her security detail has been present at the hotel during hours when the First Lady would normally be residing in the White House. While she was National Security Adviser, Rice, who has never been married, referred to George W. Bush as "my husband" before she corrected herself and said, "the president." Rice was speaking at a dinner when she made her "husband" remarks. WMR is tracking the Laura Bush story. First Lady reportedly discovers that "The Decider" decided to violate his marriage vows -- moves out. Complete archives at http://www.sitbot.net/ Please let us stay on topic and be civil. [cia-drugs] Giving Up On Israel
http://www.thejewishweek.com/news/newscontent.php3?artid=12516print=yes (06/02/2006) Giving Up On Israel Olmert losing U.S. conservatives if West Bank goes Gaza. Jonathan Mark - Associate Editor Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s plans for withdrawal from much of the West Bank is leading to erosion of political support within the one American group — the conservative, primarily Christian right —that had been most supportive of Israel, and reportedly the root of President Bush’s support, as well. Those conservatives who most cheered Israel’s history of defying Islamic terrorists are now the most disappointed by what they’re calling Israel’s “appeasement,” as exemplified by its policy of unilateral withdrawal; giving guns to a Palestinian security unit under PA President Mahmoud Abbas, even though such weapons were used in the past against Israel; and giving millions of dollars in medical assistance to Palestinian hospitals to thwart what is being called a “humanitarian crisis,” even though Olmert told the New York Times (May 19) that the “humanitarian crisis” was nothing but “total propaganda.”Several writers pointed out that Olmert was once again living up to his doctrine spoken at the time of the Gaza disengagement: “We are tired of fighting, we are tired of being courageous, we are tired of winning, we are tired of defeating our enemies.” Joseph Farah, editor of World Net Daily and once as enthusiastic a defender of Israel as anyone in the media, finally threw in the towel, writing, “I Give Up On Israel.”World Net Daily is something like NASCAR, unknown to most New Yorkers but wildly popular in the heartland. Alexa, the Internet tracking service, ranks WND (worldnetdaily.com) as the No. 1 Internet site for conservative news, with more online readers than either National Review or The Weekly Standard. The site has considerable Christian advertising and readership and, since its 1997 founding by Farah, a Christian of Arab-American heritage, WND has offered a drumbeat for Israel that previously earned Farah a journalism award from the right-wing Zionist Organization of America. Farah also writes a syndicated column for the Jerusalem Post, among others, and has co-authored a book with Rush Limbaugh. His Zionist and conservative credentials are impeccable. So hundreds of thousands of readers took notice when Farah wrote in WND (May 15), “I am through defending Israel — at least the regime currently in power in Jerusalem, this useless coalition seemingly hell-bent on committing national suicide.”Farah said Olmert’s plans for a unilateral West Bank withdrawal is nothing but “retreat” and “appeasement.” Olmert, said Farah, “does this fully knowing that last summer’s evacuation of the Gaza Strip has been an unmitigated disaster for the Jewish people, Western Civilization and freedom in general,” with Hamas wanting nothing more than to “establish a Taliban-like state” in “territories ethnically cleansed of Jews.”The West Bank, writes Farah, will become, like Gaza, a terrorist base threatening not only Israel but also Jordan and Lebanon. If that is Israel’s choice, “I’m through making excuses for Israel. I’m through trying to understand the incomprehensible moves of a self-flagellating nation. I’m through trying to point out the moral rightness of a state and a people who themselves fail to discern right from wrong.”Farah added, “I know I speak for many Jews and Christians throughout the world who see Israel’s surrender as a cowardly betrayal, a sign that the Jewish state puts more faith in Washington and ‘international diplomacy’ than in the
