I just got a 7832 New in the box today and had the exact thing happen. Never
had this problem before on 7832s. Must be a bug with the default firmware they
put on this batch.

I’d say Cisco went beyond the call of duty on support of those models. The
first Cisco IP Phones I deployed were 7960s and that was in late 2000/early
2001. Running CCM v3.0(8) and some Version of Unity on NT that didn’t really
work yet. ☺
