Thanks Scott. We just finished rebuilding the 64bit system with a 32bit
OS (due to other reasons). Good to know that resource is available
though, and I'm glad it is in the archive now with the right keywords.

Just a follow up on this, as I have some more recent info that may prove
useful.
I have rebuilt my workstation with the latest Kubuntu (11.10) and needed
to install the printer again. I used the same .deb files I had already
downloaded from Brother's website (URL mentioned earlier in this
I have this same printer running flawlessly in our Ubuntu only network
(ok, there are some windows VMs too, but that doesn't matter for this
discussion...).
I went to Brother's website and downloaded the appropriate drivers for
the printer and scanner.
oops. Forgot to mention - for the drivers, I downloaded the .deb files
and then just clicked on them from my file browser. Ubuntu knows how to
handle .deb files properly. The other version of the drivers require
more effort in working with CUPS...

I recently purchased a Brother DCP-7065DN printer.
I got it work fairly quickly with a Windows machine Kin loaned me with
the data going through my router.
But I have not been able to run it from my Ubuntu 11.04 machine.
I first tried to download the network driver from the Brother web site
