I think I posted that ad a while ago.
With fair sails you can assume you'll need new ones and the engine would
still be in the boat if it ran - otherwise why remove it.
So - $1500-2500 for a decent used engine or repair of the existing one.
Likely that again for sails, depending on your Bacon's
Also I see no Deck hardware so add 4+ winches (2500 used ?) , turning
blocks jam cleats clutches and running rigging

Hey Fellow CCers
Thinking about my next boat project. I'm looking for advise on an AIS
transponder. I'm thinking about a Class B. Anyone been down this road
that can help?
Thanks

I have an AIS receiver-only and love it. Class A is better, as in more power
and more frequent broadcasts, but it uses more power and costs about 5 times as
much.
Beware the FleaBay AIS units. Many of them seem to come from ship breakers in
India and are missing parts. Also note many Class A
Hells bells, this is what you want to use to make your PHRF killer. An empty

Thank you. She is a great boat. I will sail her in the Jean rebolt cup
race this weekend from Savannah georgia to Charleston South Carolina
if I can find a crew in time. I have spent many hours getting her back
in shape. She nice now. and I get remarks all the time on her. I love

I've been looking at the Si Tex. built in GPS antenna. Good Price.

True. But I stand by my statement, using the word generally. Here's more on
the differences between Class A and Class B:

Short season, but I've been through there on vacation and took the boat ride up
the way to some rock caves; beautiful country. So I guess that makes up for
the short season. Here, the season usually starts in MAR and can go into DEC,
chilly but doable, but the scenery is pretty bland and there
Mike,
I'd check with Doug Miller at http://www.milltechmarine.com He's a
sailor, a good guy and very well connected in the electronics/ais
market. He' will be more knowledgeable and helpful than just about
anybody at West, etc Fair prices too. No business connection, but
sailing friend.
He only carries a couple products.

Here's a question. If one were on the bay say around Annapolis, and Gibraltar
fell into the Atlantic sending a 50M tsunami East, what would the situation be
for riding that out in the middle of the bay in say 70' of water?

You and your boat would be relocated to someplace in mid-Pennsylvania. You
would enjoy the scenic river and canal system that connects Pittsburgh to the
other sailing hot spots like Morgantown WV.

Just got a message back from the contact on SailNet.
He went to check out the boat for me today. Uploaded a ton of photos apparently
(I'll need to get home so I can check them out - I'll post a couple if people
are interested).
His comment -
The boat is really quite nice, actually amazing
If you could stay in the crest it would be quite a ride.
I would think it would break perhaps repeatedly.
The essential question is how large of a wave could you safely ride out in 70'
of water do that the sides were not steep enough to cause pitchpole?

Even in deep water, I'd be worried about the refraction/reflection effects in
an enclosed body of water like the Chesapeake; the weird wave patterns could be
quite severe.

Joel,
Is this the SI-TEX unit that you were looking at?
http://www.si-tex.com/index.php/product-information/ais/sas-300-ais-class-b-ais-transceiver-detail
Although I don't have any of their hardware, I like the SI-TEX brand. They
seem to occupy the value space. Value, like free wind, = good. :-)
Bob
No I will connect it to the plotter.

While growing up (in Wisconsin), I had to walk through 10 foot snow drifts
to get to the marina. And we didn't even have a boat.
