It's not only good karma, it's the way they do business. We bought in bulk
and managed to provide the museum with over $1k in revenue. I don't
begrudge a cent of that, even though I did bargain them down from full
price. ; )

There are a total of 6 lifeline stanchions that seem to have undersized backing

How much room is involved to fix the wobble? Microns or millimeters? If a
reasonable size, you could use a pourable urethane instead of epoxy, which
would be brittle. Something with a durometer of 50-60 would be pretty rigid

Well, I stained the steps and they look pretty good. A little darker than

Anyone know how many of the old 30-1s were made?

I have a 1981 '34 with a Yanmar 3GMD engine with seawater cooling. A mechanic
recommended that I install a t-valve for the raw water intake so I can flush
the engine with fresh water occasionally. The engine appears to be in good
condition and runs well in the two years I have owned the boat
Salt can precipitate and plug coolant passages along with other gunk so a
good chemical cleaning might be in order from time to time. You could
probably get an idea how bad things are the next time you replace zincs or
check the thermostat. I've heard of using vinegar. Prestone and Peak make

Last week someone asked about this. The page below on
Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot all have the D shape EPDM gasket material
in their weatherstripping area. I think the brands are either Frost King
or MD Products (#01025).
Here's the Walmart link:
I've done a few deck peels. I use a vibrating saw to cut the skin. Cuts
a nice thin line. Makes replacing the peeled skin easier.
Remove all the bad core but leave a ledge of the original core around the
cut. This will make it easy to get the right elevation when you replace
the skin.

The 3/4 inch one is still a keel bolt, and a ground point. The keel is
thinner there and probably has a sloping leading edge so that bolt is
smaller as there is less keel for it to be buried in.
You really do need to know the diameter of your keel bolts to answer the
question about torque value.
Burt,
Your boat is listed as being built in 1974. Calypso is a 1970 build at
Bruckmann's custom yard so maybe a similar keel attachment philosophy.
Calypso has many very large keel bolt/nut combos. And several smaller (shaft
and nut) keel bolt combos. It also has a grounding/bonding bolt for

I am in the process of procuring a three quarter drive torque wrench and
sockets big enough to re-torque my keel bolts. Before I do this I just want
to be sure that 350 foot-pounds is the correct adjustment.
My old 30-1 can do 6 in 15kt of wind. That's half and I pid a lot less than
half of what the new 30 costs.
That said, if I had the boat bucks, I'd love to own the new 30. What a hoot it
would be to race it! I'd gladly stay in the nearby microtel instead of onboard.

I bet your old Mark 1 doesn't do 12 knots in 15 knots of wind either. It was a
