Bruce,
Here's a link to some pics of Touche's Lewmar Ocean 1 ball bearing genoa
car system. You'll have to scroll through the folder to see them.
Unfortunately, none of the pics are close ups. Not sure when I'll be back
on the boat but I'll try to remember to grab some better pictures.
Thanks Charlie - a very helpful description.
I'd love a photo, and I thoroughly understand the timing.
Love this list! :)

Hey Bruce;
Be glad to send pictures but I won't be at the boat until after the
holidays--racing on Jan 6 and will be there to prep boat and take pictures on
the 5th at the latest.
The main caveat I would throw-up is I don't think the internal blocks in the
Lewmar cars are ball bearing
Hi Charlie,
Any chance you have a photo of your setup you can post/send?
Thanks!

That looks like a standard low-profile Lewmar track/car and it looks like it
has the internal blocks to make it adjustable. Add a suitable block on the fore
and aft ends of the track, run a line appropriately and eventually to the
cockpit and you have adjustable cars.
Mind that you face the
I missed the beginning of this thread.
If anyone is looking for genoa cars and/or tracks, I have a set that came
off of a Taylor 40, Wings, that was damaged in Chester Race Week about
years ago. I bought the boat for scrap and have been parting it out ever
since. All Harken gear.

I should qualify a few things: 1) moving my Garhauer cars forward is usually
doable without a winch under most conditions (until the wind builds and we have
a lot of sail up); 2) moving them aft is a bit of a pain in anything over about
10 knots; 3) I believe my Garhauer cars have ball bearings
Genoa cars are always listed on eBay. Most are not ball bearing.
Sometimes there's a decent deal. For instance, there's a Harken big boat
genoa car system with tracks on eBay. $350 + $150 shipping. Located in
Marblehead, MA if you're close.
So I am cheap and I race on occasion...
I have the Schaefer tracks and cars with the plastic inserts.
I take a 3 to 1 back to the double footblock (other slot is for headsail) it
then leads thru cam cleat before going to open winch.
When I want it forward the winch makes it so and the cam
Hi Barry,
You are spot on with your thoughts - I don't race, but I do like to daysail and
cruise for speed. I also like the idea of being able to spill wind out the top
and/or adjust the car after reefing the headsail. That said, it's not worth
$1,000 to me. So, when I thought I could get
Hey,
If you don't race, I question need for line adjustable cars.
The boat I race on has them, and they work well. We have three headsails to
pick from, and not all courses are windward / leeward, so we do adjust the
cars during the race.
I don't race my boat (that seriously anyway) and I

Great idea Ken!
Thank you very much. I had totally forgotten about "The Third Wave". I have
reached out to Eric.
This list is worth every bit of my donation - and more! Bruce Whitmore
