The teak will slowly wear away and become very porous.I replaced the rails on our viking 33 and the 7/8 rails were more like 5/8.  You could really see the wear at the connection points as they seems to flare a bit right at the deck. DannyOn Oct 2, 2021 2:20 AM, Donald Kern via CnC-List wrote:

Hauling, winter storage on the hard and launch run close to $2000 for my 35MKII. I store mast up and haven’t unstepped the mast for about 10 years at least but if I unstepped on haulout, stored my mast on an outdoor rack at the yard and then stepped before launch that would add another about $600

Thicker and wider butyl tape is usually available at RV supply stores like Camping World. Its not as soft and sticky as the Beddit tape but I have used it with good results.  I sometimes worry that the Beddit tape is a little 'thin' and often put 2 layers on--which has its own problems because

We don't really have any of those clubs, I hear about in Canada, around these parts.  Most boatyards here see boat owners as 'marks' and try to squeeze as much of the boat owners money as they can get.  I was paying over $900 to haul, unstep/step the mast, and move the boat a couple miles to and

So,  marine-how-to is run by just one man and he had a stroke a few weeks ago (I posted about it, here, at the time).  Last I heard he was alert but had a long recovery ahead of him.  There is no one to service the site or the store right now.  So, I believe they just disabled the whole thing.

You will get grooves in the teaks grain, and the teak will eventually loose its structural integrity.  I just had to make new hand rails due to the lack of a protective coating on them. The teak toerail required extensive sanding to come close to a smooth surface before applying cetol. Doug
