Well, they don't clog up as much with hair and crud. But sharp little
bits of crud will damage the diaphragm. And eventually you'll need to
replace the diaphragm.
People who don't replace diaphragms every now and then are called
mothers.

Diaphragms get hard and don't seal anymore so a rebuild kit is in order.
