For the last 20 years, every March, about four of us locals, use to make
an annual pilgrimage to Defender and if needed would do a 5 min. run to
Jamestown Dist. With cut backs at Defender and the closing of
Jamestown's walk in store, those days are gone.
Chuck, I have found Hamilton's prices
I forgot to mention Mauripro. They're good for replacement parts for my
Lewmar genoa car system and hard to find Harken parts. Not cheap but good
customer service.
For some rigging and other stuff, I use a local shop in New Orleans, Sea

came in the wake of a huge surge in retail boat and
Yes, and I think this was probably the big advantage that the old Defender
had over West Marine. With the exception of some of the main yachting
centers, if you would go into any West Marine store, which for me would be
either Cleveland or Buffalo, You could spray a paintball machine gun around
Retail store in Bristol is closed.

Our club has a group discount at Fisheries that I am happy to share.
The more it is used the deeper the discounts go. The actual discount
amount varies from item to item. But, in some areas it can be
significant. They also give a 10% discount for the first 90 day you own
your boat.

There is still Defender. Though, their website is not as technologically up to
date as Fisheries Supply. But, to be honest, I will always pay more to support
our local joints if they have what I need. Easy for me to say, since we are
fortunate to still have a few to chose from here in NYC.

Fawcett Boat in Annapolis is always less than West and has free shipping on
most orders over $99. They also have more sailing gear than the local
West. I use a Port Supply discount at West. It varies from 5% to 60%
depending on the item.

Bill,
Over the past several years I have found that Wholesale Marine is the lowest
price for bottom paint.

They typically have a paint sale or rebate offer right about now. I see that
VC17 is on sale now.
Otherwise, I look around and have used a number of
I like Fisheries Supply in Seattle https://www.fisheriessupply.com/. You
can get on their email list, and get notified about special sales, or just
search their website.

Jamestown Distributors has always given me great service. I haven't
compared their prices for a while but they were in line with other places
or lower. They have their own brand called Total Boat, which is very good,
unlike most West Marine brands.
