Agree with JP. Might be that some bugs have nested in the fuel tank vent
fitting. Saw Mud Dauber Wasps do that on several boats at our boatyard.
Remove the hose at the tank and blow through the hose and the thruhull vent
fitting on the side of the hull.
I found newer SS vent fittings with S
………..and the diesel vent line.

I was having that problem with my old 3qm30. Ended up replacing injectors
and having injection pump rebuilt. After that no idle issues, and starting
was a breeze. I also hauled up a cable to the compression release levers.

Could be a dirty air filter, or a clogged mixing elbow. Try running after
removing the air filter (easiest test). If that's not the problem, remove
the mixing elbow and clean it out. If you have an old Yanmar and the mixing
elbow has never been removed, that's likely the problem.
