Hoist it to the masthead and use a longish tack line. Try to keep the luff fairly tight so the sail doesn't drift off to leeward and become an air brake when you're reaching. To drop the sail, the easiest way is to turn downwind and then ease the tack line and sheet it in tight behind the main.

We have been given one. It is too short but it worked well as we have normally three children on board. It is short on the luff so do we fly it high to the top of the mast or lower to the deck? What is the process of getting it down? Tack release, let sheets go, and then let down the halyard?
