I crewed on 2 similar sized boats with “coffee grinder” pedestals in approximately the same location close to the mid cockpit. (One was a Frers 49 for Transpac 1981, the other a Chance 54 for the 1982 Vic-Maui and Clipper Cup.) The location keeps the weight out of the ends and leaves enough
