I have a mast seal made from an old inner tube from a tractor tire. A local
tire store gave me two old inner tubes at no charge. Made a paper pattern and
then cut a curved section of rubber from the inner tube. Attached to the mast
partner and the mast with lng band clamps. The overlap in
I've been using Gorilla tape the last two years and it holds up very well.
Since only 2in wide, I have to build it up like roofing layers, but it sticks
to itself, and everything else, very well. Doesn't wear away like duct tape

Agreed as to sealing the slot, but the nice thing is on ours that the
spar manufacturer thoughtfully filled the slot below the boom vang
attachment, so it makes for a nice smooth penetration through the deck.
Still wondering about better tape opt
Dennis,
did you remove those blocks to apply the tape?

Bill,
I couldn’t find 8 inch wide tape on Dr. Shrink’s website, or on Amazon.
Could you post the URL you used to order it?

I wrapped Touche's mast and collar with the self-fusing tape about 8-10
years ago. Squeezed some LifeSeal into the slot to seal it. Absolutely NO
leak since. Not a drop.

Also don’t forget that if you are keel stepped AND have a mast slot for slugs
on your mainsail luff. Darn near impossible to seal that channel with just the
boot tape.

I am using white shrinkwrap tape. It has one problem, it gets brittle and can
crack or pull loose. I end up adding some in the middle of each season to keep
good coverage. Not difficult, as I bought a roll which may last me forever.

Under “other solutions,” I use a Spartite plug at the partners which, in
