Three species of Grosbeak continue to visit daily: at least three pairs of
Rose-breasted (I've seen seven at once...a huge first for such numbers), nearly
as many Black-headed are here too (odd, last year it was more Black-headed than
Rose-breasted), and Evening Grosbeaks (in twos and threes)
The wind at 7:00 AM made me think it might be a good day to sleep in, but then
I looked out the back window. Little birds were flying every in the wind and
into the pear trees.

On my way home from RMBO training this morning, I found a Lucy's Warbler in
Rabbit Valley. I originally heard a warbler singing that I didn't recognize
(I am rusty on my warbler songs, so I cannot confirm whether it was a nearby
Virginia's or the Lucy's) and saw a warbler fly from the

At three this afternoon, we spotted a Broad-tailed Hawk over Dayton, just
north of Mississippi, and south of Alameda. Last week when I caught sight

This morning we had a bird field trip for the City of Fort Collins Master
Naturalists Class of 2009. Our area was basically the Poudre River from Sharp
Point Drive at Prospect southeast thru Prospect Ponds Natural Area along the
bike trail to the Environmental Learning Center parking lot and

Sandwiched around my job, I found time to visit three Bent County
migrant traps on 5/8.
At Green Heron Slough, I had a White-eyed Vireo with a Cassin's Vireo.
Van's Grove hosted a male Summer Tanager.
The Hasty Campground was alive with birds today. I found a male
Black-throated
All the goodies that were found eariler in the day (male Black-throated Blue
Warbler, male Magnolia Warbler, two Northern Waterthrush, and Veery), were all
present all afternoon, into the evening at the Headquarters Willows and yard.
I was surprised to find a male Hooded Warbler here as well.

I was able to walk the trails around Twin Lakes twice today (5/8).
First, in the morning with Joyce Takamine and Maggie Boswell, the
typical warblers were present, Yellow Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler,
Yellow-rumped Warblers and Common Yellowthroat. We were
