On a small, scrubby bank outcropping on the W side of Bass Pond was a group of
5 Green Herons. Three were juvies, 1 was an adult, and the other was skulking
too much to tell. They hung out for 15 mins while I watched and when I put my
binos on another bird, all flew except the adult

Hello,
Hummingbird migration is a phenomenon that is amazing to see. People living in
northern New Mexico are fortunate to experience it yearly. Northern New Mexico
has two common breeding species: Broad-tailed
I am also having hummingbirds in the yard again after their absence since late
May. A male calliope came first on 7/15, and yesterday evening a few broadtails
showed up as well.

In case you haven't heard, there's an Orange-billed Nightingale Thrush being
heard and seen in Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills of South Dakota. This
is about a 6.5 hour drive north of Denver. The identification isn't in

The other day I finally saw my first Gray Catbird in my yard. I’ve

While out for my evening walk, I stopped to watch some little birds forgaing in
a fairly large scrub oak. They turned out to be a pair of blue gray
gnatcatchers. I watched them and then realized what had to be the female
nestled down into a nest, where three branches fork up.
