Arapahoe County:
--A Green Heron was reported by Todd at Cooley Lake in South Platte Park on
July 6. Cooley Lake is a limited access area. Contact park office at
303-730-1022 to gain access. Cameron reported that the Green Heron was seen
again on July 18.
Boulder County:
--A Pacific Loon was reported by Blatchley on McIntosh Lake in Longmont on July
10. The loon was seen again on July 12 by Hatch and on July 13 by Lamoureux.
--A Broad-winged Hawk was reported by Floyd flying north over Bear Creek on
July 18.
--5 Green Herons were reported by Stiles at Ricky Weiser Pond in Walden Ponds
in Boulder on July 19.
Clear Creek County:
--A Fox Sparrow was reported by Chavez at Echo Lake on July 18.
Delta County:
--Chukars were heard by Garrison at Gunnison River Pleasure Park near Hotchkiss
on July 18. They were about 1/4 mile up the main river from the confluence of
North Fork and the Gunnison River.
El Paso County:
--A Green Heron was reported by Koehn at the inlet to South Rice's Pond in
Fountain Creek Regional Park on July 13.
--An ACORN WOODPECKER was reported by Barbara Schaefer at feeders at her home
at 1203 Vega Drive in Colorado Springs. The feeders are on the east side of
the house by the entrance and birders are welcome to sit on the deck and watch.
The deck is at the top of a long wooden staircase. She will warn neighbors
that birders may be coming with cameras and scopes. The bird was seen on July
15, 18, and 19. Her phone number is 719-636-2773 and the house is in the lower
skyway area of Colorado Springs.
Gilpin County:
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker nest was reported by Shade in Golden Gate
SP on July 8. Park at Panorama Point. Take the Racoon Trail to behind the
lookout platform. In a tall isolated aspen there is the nest hole. The
Three-toed family was heard by Lamoureux on July 13.
Hinsdale County:
--A BROWN PELICAN was reported by Bailey on Williams Creek Reservoir on July
15. Williams Creek is west of Pagosa Springs.
Huerfano County:
--A Black Phoebe has been visiting the yard of Beverly Jensen in La Veta on
July 11 and 12. If you would like to try to see it contact her at

Mesa County:
--White-winged Doves were reported by Korte on power lines in the 2400 block of
Mesa Ave of Grand Junction on July 13. He has seen or heard the doves off and
on for about 2 years.
--Purple Martins were reported by McGinley 3.2 miles from Vega Reservoir on
Park Creek Road (also known as FR 262) on July 15.
Rio Grande County:
--A BENDIRE'S THRASHER was reported by Nelder at Monte Vista NWR on July 11.
It was seen on the west side of the main driving loop.
Weld County:
--3 Caspian Terns were reported by Mammoser in Greeley at a lake west of 35th
Ave at Poudre River Trail on July 10.
--A White-winged Dove was reported by Lefko on CR 46 on July 18.
The DFO field trip for Saturday, July 24 will be to O'Fallon Park -- an
Intensive Sound Study in the Field led by Alison Kondler (303-904-9140). Meet
at 0700 at C470 & Morrison Road. Go west on Morrison Road from C470. Take the
first right on S. Rooney Road, then another right into the dirt parking lot
which is directy east of the gas station. Will Carpool from there. Bring
binoculars, water, snacks, bug spray and sound amplifiers. Lunch optional.
1/2 day trip. Call to sign up. Space is limited to 15 people. Note: There
will be quite a bit of uphill climbing at a birder's pace on this trip.
The DFO field trip for Sunday, July 25, will be to Pine/Cheeseman Bailey Area
led by Chris Blakeslee (303-694-4670). Meet the leader at 0630 just south of
Conoco station at Dartmouth and S. Sheridan (SW corner across from old Bear
Valley Shopping Center). Alternatively, meet the group at 0710 at the Pine
Junction Country Store on the west side of Hwy 285 at the stoplight in Pine
Junction. Bring lunch and water for a fun day chasing mountain birds.
