Report for Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory bird banding at Chico Basin Ranch
for Monday 9/12/2011.
89 new birds banded today, under much more normal circumstance - lots of birds
early, and continuing through the morning - and still catching birds when we
closed about 2pm. A big
The banding season has been slow so far at Ridgway State Park, but the
diversity has been fair. Since our first day of banding, we have added:
House Wren, Song Sparrow, Warbling Vireo, Black-capped Chickadee, Virginia’s
Warbler, Downy Woodpecker, Western Wood-Pewee, Yellow Warbler,
Black-throated
Sunday morning there were about 10-12 warblers until about 8:30 am - Townsends,
orange crowned, Wilson's - at the Smoky Hill Group Picnic site. Late morning a
Clark's grebe was drifting along the dam with a Western grebe, between the
tower and the marina - excellent facial markings and bill
Which reminds me, I had a frenetic female broad-tail yesterday, harassing two
black-capped chickadees up in a Russian olive beside my house--one of which
then flew down into a low aspen just a few feet from me. The hummer then
swooped in and started a fast-paced lateral sweep pattern in an arc

In addition to the RMBO banding report for Chico today a group from
the Springs found a Yellow-throated Warbler in the HQ willow/cotton wood
area ( photographed ) .HQ area also had a female type American Redstart , 8
