Was able to take three birders over to see the female Varied Thrush this
morning. As usual she gave us brief, but good looks!

The Winter Wren is still present in the same area as yesterday as of noon
today. I followed Mark Miller's directions from yesterday and heard then saw
the little guy within 5 minutes. There is a small creek that flows into the
river on the south side and that is where I found him.

I just had a goose on my pond that I initially thought was a greater white
fronted goose but realized there was little to no white at the base of its
beak. The beak was mostly orange, darker at the base and had a black tip to it.
The legs were the classic bright orange.
When I looked back
I too saw the winter wren about 11:30 AM today. He showed himself for a
long time and then darted into and out of the gaps under the big slabs of
ice, right where everyone has described where he should be, viewed from one
of the dirt social trails. Great find!
Is there any truth to the rumor
Despite serious winds that sounded like I was standing next to a jet, I did see
(Sun. afternoon 1:30):
* a great blue heron at the marina, on a post out in the water
* 2 male hooded mergansers, a couple of common golden eyes, and a dozen
shovelers doing the circle dance
* a beautiful bald eagle
On a DFO field trip to Barr Lake below the dam we heard and saw two Rusty
Blackbirds. We were first attracted by a song that sounded somewhat like a
European Starling. The bird we found in a cottonwood singing, however, was
a blackbird with a pale yellow eye. We debated whether it was a Brewer's
This afternoon, I went to the Swallows area on the far west end of Pueblo
Reservoir, and was quite happy to see a Greater Roadrunner. Van Truan found
two Roadrunners in this area, back on December 14th, during the Pueblo
Reservoir CBC. To get to Swallows, drive on Hwy 50 West, of Pueblo
Hi All,
The Snowy Owl first found by Kathy Mihm-Dunning, Bruce Newman, Chris Owens,
Joe Roller and myself at about 7:25am this morning was relocated by several
people throughout the day today.
The bird was relocated in the field and hills to the north. The location is
on Hwy 94 (east of
Hello all,
I decided to look a little bit closer at the structure of the calls in Ted's
recording of the Bolder Troglodytes he posted to Xeno-Canto, which can be heard
at the following link.

I may not be able to contribute much to the discussion of the bird's
I think I saw at least three immature bald eagles today near the
intersection of Marksheffel and Drennan road. I was able to get pictures of
two of them:

It was a great day for hawk and eagle
I think this is a dark morph rough-legged hawk but I'm not sure. I saw it
on Marksheffel Rd just north of Drennan.
