Hello, CO-Birders,
Greetings from flat, humid, and utterly Baird's Sparrowless Delaware,
Seriously, the recent spate of Baird's Sparrows discovered in Colorado has been
fascinating to watch and painful to not be able to participate in. Major
congratulations on all of it and I can't wait to see
I was unable to find the Buff-breasted Sandpiper on the WCR 105 pond at
1:30 PM on Sunday, September 7. Just after I arrived a Prairie Falcon flew
over the pond and about 6 peeps scattered and flew southeast. I stayed at
the pond for 45 minutes but no birds returned. I did see four brightly
Thanks to all for the great discussion about the unfolding picture of
possible breeding BAIS's at or near Drenann Road, or at least somewhere in
our fair state.
(I have heard that juvy sparrows beg for food in migration, but have no
references. What do we actually know about that?)

Hi, everybody. One more thing about this Tattered Cover event. I didn't
realize until today how close to City Park the Colfax Ave. branch of the
Tattered Cover is. So I'll be doing a lite, casual, fun,
bring-your-own-dinner bird walk in the hour before the event. Meet at 5:45
p.m. on the west
I birded the Grand Junction SWA near the confluence of the Colorado and
Gunnison rivers this morning. Highlights included one (possibly 2)
Cassin's Vireo and a Nashville Warbler.

While birding today I bumped into Carl Starace who had found at least one
and possibly two Tennessee Warblers with a flock of Wilson's Warblers. I
photographed one of them. The Tennessee Warbler(s) were along the unpaved
road to Evans 6 oil well just as the road descends adjacent to the cliff.
Greetings All
On a whim I headed SE today. I started at Jett Res in Kiowa, which only had a
few shorebirds unlike a week ago. Perhaps due to local Peregrine in attendance.
Then went to Neenoshe locust grove where the scrubby locust, tamarisk and
Russian Olives held 50 species of land birds.
Once again, went out to Drennan Road to see if I could get any of the
reported birds that I haven't seen (Savannah Sparrow and McCown's Longspur).
Didn't see them tonight.
Buthad a lifer! Just wish I could have got it on my memory card.
I had started my trip at Squirrel Creek Road pond.
Went
Hi, I'm Amber West and I will be banding at Ridgway State Park, Ouray County
from 9/6 - 9-16, and at Grand Junction, Mesa County from 9/17 - 10/17. The
banding so far has been fairly slow, and especially today with the rain, but it
will hopefully pick up soon.
On 9/6, we banded 10 new birds,
Birders,
In addition to the Colorado's terrific Breeding Bird Atlas and eBird,
another good source for predicting potential breeding habitats for Colorado
birds is the Colorado Gap Analysis Land Cover Maps, created by an analysis
of Landsat imagery.
While the Gap analysis vertebrate maps are a
