Over the week-end I did some birding at the Royal Gorge Park (not the
for-pay now amusement park but the free and not-yet developed park owned by
the City of Canon City). One can get to the edge of the Royal Gorge Canyon
which is breathtaking and not uncommonly flown by White-throated Swifts.

My friend Mike McCloy and I found a first year Blackpoll Warbler in Estes
Park today. It was along Fish Creek at 2951 Fish Creek Road in a large
flock of Audubon's Warblers. Also present were two Townsend's Warblers, a
Peregrine Falcon and two Band-tailed Pigeons. Six other birders from the
John Stump and I birded local hotspots yesterday and the best bird of the day
was our 5th SLV record of Red-eyed Vireo at the Cattails Golf Course (Alamosa
County). We also enjoyed a variety of warblers, and other birds in this season
of change.

Snakeskin Picnic Area, below Pueblo Reservoir dam, Pueblo County, when an odd
vireo popped up. It turned out to be a BELL'S VIREO, my second one ever for

day since August 28 when Wilson's Warblers did not overwhelm all other
species, and the first day since then that they were not in double digits.

at Chico Basin Ranch. Daily totals and
species follow. New species captured so far this week include
White-breasted Nuthatch, Nashville Warbler, and Black-and-white Warbler on
Monday. The Nashville was only the sixth
individual ever

Nick Moore and I spent the day birding in Kiowa and Bent again.
The main highlight was a first year YC Night Heron at Née So Pah Reservoir. To
reach this spot, take US 287 S from Eads s to CR A ( Kiowa)/ CR WW (Bent). Turn
to the west on this road that forms the county line.

Another good day of banding at Connected Lakes, with 16 new banded birds,
including a nice catch of a Western Scrub Jay, and a family of American
Robins!
