4 July, on the Colorado River Trail between the trailhead and the Lulu City
site (3.5 miles), Margaret and I had a total of five American Three-toed
Woodpeckers: a group of three (male, female, and one of undetermined sex)
roughly halfway along the trail, and two other males, one closer to the
The major happening these days at Grandview Cemetery is the nesting of
Broad-tailed Hummingbirds. As I have proposed before, I think Grandview
constitutes what the literature refers to as this species of hummer nesting in
colonies. Two nests are completely done, with one producing the
COBirders,
Linda Hodges, Charles Kiskiras, and I did a prairie Drennan-Milne-Hanover loop
on Sat AM. The flowers were stunning, and birds were great.
Highlights include lots of Grasshopper Sparrows on Drennan and Milne south of
Drennan. With more sand sage and cholla (full bloom), lots of Sage
Hi Cobirders. My son Bob and his wife Sondra took me on a picnic and birding
trip to Golden Gate State Park. Some of the new ones for me there
were Cordilleran Flycatcher 3, Olive -sided Flycatcher,Clark's Nutcracker,
Red-naped Sapsucker 2 and a Dusky Grouse hen with 4 chicks crossing

Ken Caryl Valley this afternoon 7/5.
Checked out spots around the JeffCo side of Chatfield SP yesterday morning
