On Saturday and Sunday we had about half as many birds as Friday, but it
was really a reduction in the number of new Wilson's..a little break
before the big influx that should come over the next couple of weeks? In
addition to new bird numbers in the mid-twenties, we've had lots of
Hopefully it is OK to post to COBIRDS about the Wyoming Hereford Ranch just

It is practically a Larimer County Colorado "Annex".

The first Sunday "Lafayette Birds" was well attended today.
Thanks to Ted Floyd for leading 2 field trips from the observation deck at

Ted was getting us on dragonflies and bugs as well as birds.

I started out the day in Phillips County where I was joined in Holyoke by David
Dowell. The weather was overcast with strong winds out of the south, but there
wasn't much migrant action. I continued on my way home in hopes of picking up

Many thanks to Joey for finding the Little Gull, and thanks to Cheri for

Hi COBirders,
It was pretty slow banding at Clear Spring Ranch today, only 12 birds, my
lowest number in 3 weeks, but there was a small influx of warblers around 8:30,
including a hatch-year Northern Waterthrush (#17 for the season).
There are still several hundred mixed Red-winged and
Bird still being seen flying between the SE sand spit and the dam. Made a quick
stop on the spit at 11:40.

Yesterday I led another "Chase Trip" for Denver Field Ornithologists to
hunt for cool birds. Thanks to the great merry band of chasers that came
along.
Our first stop was Warembourg Open Space in Louisville, where we heard and
had brief glimpses of the Carolina Wren reported by Jack Bushong.
Same place as reported yesterday. Playa just west of 181 & 30 south of Byers.
Thanks again to Ceri Phillips for finding this great bird!

A big thanks to Cheri for identifying and photographing the Buff-breasted
sandpiper among all the Baird's sandpipers at Byers Playa. It was a 'rare'
lifer for me!
I am also grateful to Gwen, Lee, and Sue for pointing out this lovely beige
bird, because it had an uncanny ability to hide in the

Hey, Everybody. This is last-minute, but I thought I'd let folks know
there's a bird walk *this afternoon, Sunday, Sept. 4, at Greenlee Preserve,*
eastern Boulder County. The walk is hosted by the City of Lafayette,
sponsored by a cast of thousands (incl. the American Birding Association),

Gene Rutherford found (as far as I know) this little hot spot! I ran into
him there the same day I found the Buff-breasted Sandpiper. We parted
company and I later returned to find this little gem of a bird. I'm so
happy people are getting out there to see it.
