This week Barb and I spent a few days in northeastern Colorado, spending
one night in Sterling, another in Wray. We enjoyed birding at Prewitt
Reservoir SWA, North Sterling State Park, Tamarack Ranch SWA, Red Lion SWA,
Jumbo Reservoir SWA, Stalker Lake SWA, and South Republican SWA (with our
Uncle Van Truan (who is recently retired) and I found a few interesting
migrants and other birds today in SE Colorado, in Kiowa, Prowers, and Bent
Counties mostly.
We didn't have much luck with rarer mountain birds, though we did find
single Mountain Chickadees in both Kiowa County and Bent
Hi Cobirders,
I had a Palm Warbler[western], in my backyard on 10/13/2020. The bird was
jumping up in the air, catching insects. A very obvious dark eyeline with a
light brow. The bird was constantly wagging it's tail. I was excited about
seeing this bird, when I looked over at the birdbath
Last night around 8:30 I heard a group of sandhills (unknown #s) calling while
flying south in the dark probably roughly over I-25.

Hello,
Again I am looking for advice on where to find a bird. The white throated
sparrow is one of my favorite birds and I have gotten to spend lots of time
with them in the past couple years. I am looking for somewhere where I can
find them near loveland or fort Collins, and wondering where
This morning I had a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker on the path that runs by the
ditch just SW of Eisenhower Elementary School. Exact coordinates are
(40.0071973, -105.2360540). There was also a White Throated Sparrow near
those coordinates as well.

At present we plan to hold Denver Urban & Black Forest counts. Each will
allow participants only by invitation from the area leader.

COBirders,
This afternoon I found a Pacific & a Common Loon at Douglas Reservoir in
Larimer County. Seen from the west side of the reservoir near the boat launch
area. A nice variety of ducks were also on the water.

Yesterday at least 5 flocks of cranes flew over our house, most of them a mere
100, but one that spent 5 minutes swirling overhead had 650 in it. Today 3
flocks -- one seen with about 75 cranes.
And with the cold temperatures, we spent only 2 hours outside - late morning -
and didn't pick up
Hi All,
Ernest Crvich found a PHILADELPHIA VIREO this morning at Pleasant View
Marsh in Boulder County this morning. The bird continued today at 2:40pm,
but hasn't been seen since, as far as I know. It was being seen along the
path between the marsh and 30th street.
Thanks,
Will Anderson
Cobirders,
I'm currently (4:44pm) looking at a Red-necked Grebe toward the east end of
the reservoir. It has a fairly bright red neck shining in the sun and the
stripes on the face to signify a 1st year bird.
Arvada Blunn res is free to birders. Pets aren't allowed. Drive down to the
entrance
Three waves of *Sandhill cranes* flew high overhead on Oct. 14 at around
5:15 p.m. Couldn't count them but am estimated 100-plus. Also I also saw
another group of about 40 today near Rampart Range and Waterton roads.
Yesterday and today, we had a *hummingbird* at feeders we still hang with
As I watched one immature Harris’s Sparrow at the Barr Lake SP visitor center
this morning, a second popped in to join the first.
At about 10:40 a.m. a flock of about 40 Sandhill Cranes flew over. A few
minutes latter, a group of about 120 flew over the lake bed to circle in a
thermal.

I want to add a time note to my email above. To be clear, the sandhill
cranes were over Highlands Ranch on 10/14/2020 at 2PM. I'm not sure why my
post shows up so many hours later. It kind of defeats the purpose of
timely reporting, IMO. I am aware of the need for moderators approval but
Several large flocks flying high over northern Colorado Springs at this
time.

We just now saw 2 large flocks of sandhill cranes fly south over Highlands
Ranch. Woohoo! Maybe some of the ones you just saw?
