Just had about a dozen Red Crossbills (2 adult males, rest females or
immature) picking at the cones of an Austrian Pine behind my nook window.
First time (in 21 years) I've ever seen them around here.
Lincoln's Sparrow is still here -- 2 months to the day since I first
noticed it.

The Lazuli was there again this morning -- same tip, singing well.
Another male and female Lazuli were also nearby lower bopping around shrubs but
no singing from them.
Had emails from 2 other birders who have experienced this same thing.

The Eastern Phoebe has another Eastern Phoebe with him as of yesterday. They
spent a lot of time on the North bank side of the lower diversion dam fly
catching from the rusted pipe fencing behind the northern most diversion.

The Eastern Phoebe was at the diversion dam this morning (North off the Rec.
Trail from Marker 2). On the pond was a Pied-billed Grebe. Grackles are back,
male Kingfisher on overhead wire. Two P.G. cow elk on North side of river just
West of Marker 3. Lots of birdsong.

Also, last few days many Turkey Vultures have been circling above the pond. Today not one TV was seen.

The White-throated Sparrow that has been with us since mid November is still here. Its dullish coloring leads me to believe it's a female. "She" and I pine to hearthe male's song!
Also have a Green-tailed Towhee and Spotted Towhee newly arrived.

There was a beautiful Wood Thrush at Crow Valley Sunday. It was in the NW corner hanging across the stream by the exposed roots of a tree. And the mimics of the Northern Mockingbird will have to make up for not seeing the Painted Redstart.

Had an Osprey flying E to W over the Big Thompson River between Taft and Wilson in Loveland a few minutes ago. He looked so graceful flying in the wind compared to the Canada Geese trying to make headway in the same area.

I may have misidentified that Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Got a picture of a Grosbeak that looked different and came later. The later one Nick Komar kindly ID'd from a picture as a female Evening Grosbeak. Thanks, Nick! This is a first-time in my backyard.

On Aug. 2 there were 4 ducklings with the Mama Goldendye at Echo Lake in the morning. Just posting this for those who've discussed how many ducklings were there.

FYI and for Loveland CBCrs - - - Dipper on river west of Taft near marker #3; female Common Merg and female Hooded Merg just East of pedestrian bridge near Wilson; Ring-necked Duck and female Blue-winged Teal and lots of Gulls on Yard Waste Pond, whichhas some open water, about midday

This morning had an Eastern Phoebe singing and exploring the south side of the diversion dam on the Big Thompson River (a bit NW of Marker 2). This is the same area we had the Black Phoebe and hybrid. Cole, maybe this is the one you sawsouth of Cattail Pond.

Hi All
We have 2 Sharp-shinned Hawks in our area and the way they hunt reminds me of
Harris' Hawks. One flies out to where the little birdies are sheltering, then
the other comes flying behind it, hoping to catch what might flush. They are
real smooth.
