Saturday March 24, 2012:
Between 10:30 and 11:30 this morning I saw a flock of 7 White-faced Ibis at
Cherry Creek State Park, first at the Cottonwood Pond (across from model
airplane field), then at the sandspit, then again at Cottonwood Pond. The flock
seems a bit skittish and is easily flushed by passing bikers and
Cobirders,
I viewed a Ross's Goose today from the Bird-viewing Platform on the west side
of Cherry Creek Reservoir. The bird was with a large group of Ring-billed
Gulls, but after the flock was spooked by two Red-tail Hawks, the Ross's moved
further out into the lake and remained by himself.
I observed the Red-necked Grebe at about 9:30 a.m. at the Cottonwood Creek
pond, across from the model airplane field at CCSP. He was conveniently located
at the near shore, not too far from the parking pullout. The bird appears to
have suffered an injury. There is a flap of skin and feathers
Fall migration has arrived in my backyard ! Today I had a White-throated
Sparrow (tan morph), a White-crowned Sparrow (Mtn.), over 20 Chipping Sparrows,
and one Pink-sided Junco, all seeming to enjoy my rather weedy garden. I feel
vindicated for not weeding.
Good Birding,
Lois Levinson
