Lots of grebes, mostly Eared and Western but also ample amount of Horned, some
still sporting their rufous neck breeding plumage,
Common Loon, first reported by Mary Cay Burger
Lesser Scaup and an assortment of dabbling ducks
One adult Herring Gull, only a few California Gulls and of
Birders,
At about 4:00 pm yesterday, there were 3 Rusty Blackbirds and the Pectoral
Sandpiper found by Bob Righter still present on the mudflats at the prairie
loop at Cherry Creek State Park.
I was alerted to their location by Tom Bunker and Tom Schlosser (I hope I
got the names right) who
Mary Burger and I birded Cherry Creek Res on this cloudy, dark day.
Highlights included
Neotropic Cormorant at the Marina alongside many Double-cresteds
Franklin's Gulls on the sand spit near the marina
Thousands of Western Grebes, but didn't search through them for Clark's
Prairie Loop
Marlene Bruning and I drove down from Boulder County to take our chances on
the Ross's Gull show. We found the birders watching and scanning from the
Lake Loop around 9 AM and saw a scope bird flying along the dam and then
alighting in front of the dam. We followed the vehicle procession to the
Still eating grass with Canadas, a greater white-fronted goose, tundra type,
is an the west/northwest side of Cherry Creek Reservoir. Seen from 0700
through 0830. The bird is on the grass between the pier and the jet ski
rental shop.
Also...a dark jaeger (I think parasitic) flew behind some
Birders,
Tammy and I checked out Cherry Creek today but didn't find much but we did
spot a pair of Bierlings.
At the reservoir:
Nothing of note
Rufous Red-tail morph
We looked for the Dipper but dipped on it.

This morning Glenn Walbek and myself were able to find a Long-tailed Jaeger 90%
sure. still looking a the photos, 2 Sabine's Gulls (1 adult 1 Juv) and a
red-necked Phalarope.

Cobirders,
I took a quick look at the new wetlands today. There were two
semipalmated plovers, two greater yellowlegs, and one Wilson's
phalarope. Back in the weeds were several American pipits looking
beautiful. Many barn swallows, a tree swallow or two and even a
violet-green were feasting
Viewing conditions were a lot better today between 8 and 10 at Cherry
Creek (calmer, no boats, no heat shimmer), but I still did not see the jaeger
that was reported yesterday. The Pacific Loon that Chris Woods found was in
the very middle of the lake, but despite repeated scanning thru the
