Our 44th annual Fall Count recorded 10,823 birds of 162 species. Count of individuals lower than average, species count up 7 from average. We had 3 new species: Buff-breasted Sandpiper, Common Tern, and Dickcissel.    Say's Phoebes have increased over the years, with the 66 seen last weekend

    Our Sunday Fall count at the Rocky Mtn Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge tallied about 85 species (on the low side), but the variety impressed us.     We completely struck out on one group: we saw NO blackbirds, grackles, or cowbirds. None at all. In that family, only a dozen meadowlarks.

The Fall Count at the Audubon Nature Center/Chatfield trails (Sept. 12) picked up a respectable 56 species, and the "Drive around" from Waterton Bridge to Roxborough Park road, past the entrance to Roxborough State Park, counted 22 species, 6 of them additional to the nature center species.
