Tonight about 8 PM as I was outside watering, Common Nighthawks started
flying over from north to south! They flew over silently for at least 15
minutes. I haven't seen any in my part of Louisville all summer, so I
assume that they were migrating.

Just this morning at about 10 am about 8-10 nighthawks were flying around our
backyard and over the house. They landed in our ash tree and we could see them
sitting on the branches, each one at a ‘v’ in the tree, which is almost devoid
of leaves because it is sick. Then they would fly around
7:30 PM: At least 50 Common nighthawks have flown over my house in the last 15
minutes! They are still coming from the north but in much smaller numbers.
Broomfield birders -- look up!

I saw a flock of at least 27 common nighthawks hunting over Davidson Mesa last
evening between 7:00 and 7:30 PM! The group gradually drifted south.
A few nights ago my neighbor saw eight nighthawks over the dog park near
downtown Louisville.

Last night I was walking my dogs and a flock of about 30 nighthawks passed
overhead, heading SW. Five minutes later about 6 swifts came by. I didn't
have binos. I assume they were Chimney Swifts.

Further to the discussion of Common NIghthawks, Peggy Gonder and we had a
magical experience Sunday evening, after our CFO trip. Following directions
from Meredith Anderson, we drove up CR 107/108, south of the Salida Gateway Inn
that served as headquarters for the CFO convention. The road

On Sunday evening (7/10) at 6:45 pm I had about 50-75 common nighthawks fly
over
my house and neighborhood on the north side of Milner mountain, southwest of
Fort Collins. They pased by within 5 minutes and were essentially heading
straight south. Since their arrival in late May,
Taking the garbage out just now, I was pleased to hear a Nighthawk
calling in the low cloud ceiling. They make me happy and I find it to
be a iconic sound of summer, along with the busily chattering Chimney
Swifts and the plaintive Lesser Goldfinches that arrived late last
month.
