Sorry of the late post, I had to go straight to class after
visiting the grasslands. I found Crow Valley to be partly closed but not
closed as I heard on the news (they must have misspoke and meant partly
closed.) According to some of the birders I spoke to their it was less
Amazing weather for a drive on the prairie. At Crow Valley Campground we found
the previously reported Red-bellied Woodpecker excavating a tree. A lone
Orange-crowned Warbler was nearby. On the Birder's Route we almost ran over 5
McCown's Longspurs sitting on the road, then 3 Chestnut-collared
I participated in the Fort Collins Audubon Society field trip today at
Pawnee National Grasslands, led by Bill Miller. Highlights included:
- a slightly too close for comfort encounter with a prairie (?)
rattlesnake
- Ferruginous hawks (2 - on nest)
- Burrowing owls (3 - we didn't
