Union Reservoir, east of Longmont has open water for the first time since
early December thanks to the high winds last night and today. Birds are
starting to pour in: 100 Common Merganser, 50 Common Goldeneye, 4 Bufflehead,
10 Green-winged Teal, 60 Mallard, 200 Ring-billed Gull, 3 Herring
Calm conditions allowed long distance viewing of a Pacific Loon, two Common
Loons and several Red-breasted Mergansers
on Union Reservoir this morning.
Nearby Jim Hamm Pond was nearly dry but had two Snow Geese and two
White-fronted Geese restiing on the exposed shoreline.

Kei, Hannah, Andrew, and I made a very quick pass by Union Reservoir, Weld
County, late yesterday afternoon, Saturday, September 3rd. The water is still
high (shorebirds, blah), but the lake has many, many birds. We saw 2 COMMON
